Lexa's eyes wandered across the lonely rooms and closed windows. She caught herself looking at one spot for minutes now, with nothing but the sound of a ticking clock accompanying her. She stared at the couch and couldn't help but think of a few days ago when she finally admitted her feelings to her sister. And herself.

And from that whole conversation, one sentence still stuck with her. Still gave her shudders down her spine.

'You should tell her.'

She couldn't help but trace her eyes back to her room, staring at the shelf by her bed holding a single candle. The only candle ever gifted to her that she refused to lite.

She felt her stomach churn staring at it. It happened so long ago and yet she could still replay the memory in her head like it was just yesterday. She could still remember the cute little smile that Clarke had plastered on her face reaching into her bag before handing her a gorgeous green candle wrapped in timber. She remembered feeling all sorts of butterflies- her cheeks growing hot like an oven- looking at her shyly only to be met with glowing eyes and stunning rosy cheeks. The thought made her lungs weak- arguably more now than at the time.

'You should tell her.'

Lexa shook her head and ignored the sinking feeling in her stomach. Or at least she tried to. But when there was quite literally nothing but empty silence around her, her own feelings were rather hard to avoid.

'You should tell her.'

...

'You should tell her.'

'You should tell her.'

The words rang in her ears over and over for days now that she had nothing else to think about. Being stuck at home was awful.

Lexa paced around her empty kitchen, staring at the phone sitting on the counter. Maybe she should just- No. She couldn't. Could she?

No. That just wouldn't be right.

But what about this was right from the start?

Maybe she wouldn't mind. But she probably would. Wouldn't she?

It's been a year since they spoke. A whole year. A whole year without a single word, or a single text because she just so desperately wanted to escape Clarke. She wanted to escape and never have to worry about her heart again. But she didn't. Somehow she just dug herself a bigger hole.

...

A whole lot could change in a year.

What if Clarke wasn't even doing hook-ups anymore? What if she deleted Lexa's number long ago and Lexa was just a creep for saving it for this long? What if moved? Or simply didn't want to deal with Lexa? Didn't care?

The likelihood of the answer being yes to all those questions was enough to make Lexa's own doubt drown her. She bit her lip and let out a long sigh.

Was she ever going to get over her?

...

A buzzing sound came from the vibration of her phone against the countertop. A message.

Her heart skipped a beat.

Hey, sorry to intrude on your forced vacation, but could you pick up Aden from his soccer game in two days? I can't manage and he promised a friend he'd meet up.

'Oh.' She let the unexplainable sliver of hope in her chest sink away as she read the text from her sister.

Yeah, sure
