I entered a beautiful room, dark sky shone in its windows.
Elrond stood a bit further from Gandalf, who tried to change Thorin's thoughts. Balin was also there so I walked to him.
" You're late my flower." he said.
" I'm sorry but I was with my... brother."
" Fili ?"
" No, no..."
" So it was Kili." he giggled.
" No Balin... It was Lindir."

He stayed silent and I heard Thorin and Gandalf arguing:
"Our business is no concern of Elves."
"For goodness sake. Thorin, show him the map!"

" Lindir ?The elf that greeted us?"
" Yes, Balin. He's ... My brother."
" That makes you an elf." Balin looked a bit dissapointed.
" I didn't know it myself until Lord Elrond told me. He is my uncle."
" Well... I guess this quest is over for you then."

" No it is not." I smiled.
" I won't give up on my people. After all I have Durin's imaginary blood running in my veins."
Balin put his hand on my shoulder and smiled brightly.
" Please don't be mad at Thorin. He just needs to accept that you're not his alone."
" I'm not mad at him. Why would I be ? He cares for me and there's nothing more I could wish for."

I turned and saw Thorin giving map to Elrond.
" Erebor. What is your interest in this map?" asked Elrond surprised, trying to find something special at the piece of paper.
" Nothing special, it's just this sort of artifacts sometimes contains hidden text." answered Gandalf and Thorin seemed very greatful that he  didn't say more.
I tried to smile at him but he turned around. He propably needs more time. I thought to myself as Elrond observed the map.

"Cirth ithil" he finally said.
" Moon rhunes..." I whispered and Thorin gave me an astonished look.
" Yes, Moon runes." Elrond nodded.
" They can only be read by the light of the moon which has the same shape as the day and season on which they were written." he said and gazed at the sky for a while. Is this the day ?
" Can you read them?" asked Thorin. Elrond showed us to follow him without response.

I found myself on a beautiful place. It was a stone terrace, sticking out from the cliff and on its edge there was a crystal table bathing in the moonlight. From above it fell waterfall, clear as diamont and cold as ice.

Elrond put the map on the table and started to speak:
"These runes were written on a mid-summer’s eve by the light of a crescent moon nearly two hundred years ago.
It would seem you were meant to come to Rivendell, Thorin Oakenshield for the same moon shines upon us tonight."
Suddenly a white moon appeared on the sky and the runes showed up on the paper in the colour blue.
Elrond hold up the map on the light and started reading:

Stand by the grey stone when the thrush knocks, and the setting sun with the last light of Durin’s Day will shine upon the keyhole.

"Durin’s Day?"  asked Bilbo.
" Yes.  It is the start of our new year, when the last moon of Autumn and the first sun of Winter appear in the sky together. These rhunes are saying than we can enter the mountain only on this day and this time."
" Which are bad news. Summer is passing, Durin’s Day will soon be upon us." said Thorin, thinking what are we  going to do.

" But there is still time." Balin joined the conversation.
"Time, for what?"
Poor Bilbo. Our little burglar didn't know anything about magical doors or dwarven maps.
"To find the entrance. " I explained.
"We have to be standing at exactly the right spot, at exactly the right time. Then, and only then, the door can be opened." said Balin.

After our little talk Elrond spoke up:
"So your purpose is to enter the mountain."
"It is our home uncle, the heirloom of our people. If we won't fight, the dragon will sleep there forever. For long he kept what's ours under his wings. It is time to take back what was stolen from us." I said.
Elrond looked to Thorin who narrowed his eyes at the word uncle. Howewer he smiled at me after my speech.

" That mountain is a symbol of your strength, I understand that. But there are some who would not deem it wise." Elrond gave the map to me and walked away, whispering something to Gandalf.

I took the map and walked over to Thorin who stayed stargazing on the edge of the cliff.
