Cody had just finished picking out a bag for Barris, it was a simple dark brown with belt yellow straps. It also had the perfect little pocket for her saber in case she needed to stow it. He even put a little pin of a yellow heart on there for her.
"Cody....um......can I ask you something?" Barris yelled her voice betraying her worry. Cody's head snapped back to the dressing room and felt as though his jaw hit the ground.
There right in front of him was what he could only describe as being a Jedi goddess. She wore a simple white robe with long sleeves that looked like a dress with light brown tights, but his favorite thing was the two yellow pieces of fabric that came from her shoulders and were tied to her with a brown belt. Though his favorite thing was the small little look in her eyes that seemed to make everything else around them disappear.
"C-Cody? Are you ok?" Barris asked stepping back slightly worried before fiddling with her sleeve nervously. Cody gulped before shaking his head trying to get back to reality "I'm fine.....you look....wow" Cody grinned like a fool "I mean.......wow.......". Barris blushed before Cody motioned her to come forward when she was only a couple feet away from him when he held her bag up for her inspection.
"What do you think?" He asked slightly nervous. Barris just giggled before hugging it tightly to her chest before kissing his cheek "I love it, thank you, thank you, thank you" Cody smiled like a fool again and wrapped an arm around her before kissing her nose "your welcome, now you look like the most beautiful commander of the 212th." He so badly wanted to say his girl but he was a little afraid to at the moment.
Cody turned his head do Dena and Dren who looked at them sweetly, his arm was still firmly attached to Barris's waist not ready to let go. "How much is it for the supplies?" Cody asked his other hand reaching for his pocket to the credits he had managed to squirrel away for the last year.
Dena smiled at them and shook her head, "I've watched the hollows, honey, I know this girl has been through a lot. Consider it a gift from us.....though in future any you boys need any other supplies to come to us first, it makes us feel better when the boys of the republic are fighting this fight with trustworthy gear".
Cody nodded "consider it done, thank you" Dren smiled back and tossed him a vibrio knife "this is in case your girl finds herself in a similar situation again......just in case a Jedi can't get to her saber". Barris blushed as Cody nodded in appreciation to Dren, making a mental note to ban every single other supplier from the 212th till the end of the war.
Once Barris packed the bag with a couple of the other outfits Dena had given to her before they finally set off, Cody's arm firmly wrapped around her waist.
Cody would occasionally glair at the stares of other young males who looked at Barris a little more than he would like. Barris on the other hand was taking in the city while she could, Luminara rarely let her out into the city or out of the temple when on Curosaunt, and being a puppet didn't really give her much time to sightsee.
By the time they got to the base Barris had a great big grin, and some wolf whistles when she walked past a couple of shiny. Cody who had to let her waist go half a block from the compound glared at them before walking over to them and began to lecture them on behavior towards a superior officer.
Barris didn't pay any mind to it, instead, she walked to the ship they would be leaving on in less than a couple of hours. She could see Volt talking with a couple of other members of the 212th just as she walked up, her mind was overflowing with both excitement and nerves. This after all would be far different from working with Grees men, and she was eager to try and win them over.
"I don't care what the General says, she is a traitor and the fact that she is still here is an insult to every clone here"
Barris froze her hopes falling faster than they rose as she slipped behind a crate to listen in.
"Listen Vod she's not a traitor, if anything we should Be trying to help her not treat her like this Zaps, you know how loopy Cody got when that jerk sith got her and toyed with her head. She's a good person, she was before and she still is now" Volt yelled at the small group making her blush.
"Listen I don't care if Commander Cody found himself a bit of skirt I'm not taking orders from her. Now or ever."
"You know what. You're all a bunch of asshole kids." Volt yelled before Barris heard him storm off.
Barris sunk down to the floor her arms wrapped around her as she tried to calm down.
"Barris?" Cody said surprise evident in his voice.
Barris stood up quickly before Cody gently cupped her cheek and wiped a tear from her cheek.
"What's wrong?" Cody whispered not caring if people could see him.
"Nothing, we should get to the ship" Braids replied before squirming out of his hands. Cody looked hurt for a second as he watched Barris practically run up the ramp.
The rest of the day passed with little or no conversation between Cody or Barris, other than a couple of clones casting dirty looks at her. It wasn't until they were on the ship halfway to Muunilinst and everyone was getting ready to bunk down for the sleep cycle before being shot down to the surface of the planet in life pods.
"I thought you dealt with the bed issue" Cody hissed at Volt who was glaring at the four clones all bunking together. There was in grand total of seven people that would be making the trip, all of which would be sent down to the planet's surface. But they would have to wait till early tomorrow morning when the comet shower would hit the planet's upper atmosphere.
"I tried to sir but.....there were some complications.....we only have sleeping pads for six people not seven" Volt replied glaring daggers at the clones behind him. Cody noticed this and crossed his arms "what a pity we will have to sleep on the ground then" Cody said loudly causing Barris to glance worried at the clones.
Barris gulped as they turned their glares on her. "I-It's ok Cody I-I can sleep on the floor" she spoke up her body nervously flinching as she felt the waves of hatred flowing off of the four clones. Zap, Hips, Dent, and Gasher all smirked a little triumphantly before Cody spoke his words now barely above a whisper "this is not your fault Commander, if we cannot act as a team then we will suffer as a team..... understand men?".
"Sir, yes sir," all five clones said.
Barris on the other hand could not help the steady uneasy feeling growing in the pit of her stomach.
Cody on the other hand smiled sweetly at her before Barris looked back towards the floor, Cody blinked in confusion before gently dragging her into the med bay.
"what's wrong?" Cody whispered the moment he closed the med door, Barris shifted from foot to foot unsure if she should tell him before shaking her head. "its nothing Cody" she whispered, he sighed before kissing her forehead gently, "I know they don't like you Cyare, but they will understand in time, just don't give up....ok?".
Barris blushed hard before leaning into his chest "I'm just so tiered Cody, all I want to do is go somewhere where they won't treat me like I'm something on the bottom of their shoe.", He wrapped his arms around her waist before kissing her temple, mentally cursing the armor he wore for being so bulky and uncomfortable for her.
"let's get some sleep and finish this mission, then we can ask general Kenobi for help," Cody finished kissing her temple again. Praying everything would go alright until then.
