10. BACKUP

Back in Korea, everyone was busy with their hectic schedules. The WonderQ-28 project the CEOs had announced had everyone working hard on things to put out under the project and the company was always full. With the new trainees now more used to how things worked, they were working hard to improve so they could enjoy taking part on the project as well, so there was not a single person that was not excited for it. While that happened, however, Heejin was trapped inside her house as just one day after her arrival Mrs Kim was back.

Heejin was glad that she had come back before Mrs Kim arrived, but at the same time it pulled her back to reality; one that she did not like in the slightest. She tried to be in her room most of the time and rehearse for her release without her knowing, but Mrs Kim did not let her live for even a second.

"Heejin!" Min called his sister from downstairs. "You have a visitor."

"Who is it?" Heejin asked confused, as she had already told everyone she could not have people over because of Yunghoon's grandmother.

"I'm Kang Yeongjae!" the person exclaimed from downstairs.

Heejin did not take long to recognise him. Kang Yeongjae was one of the first staff members the company had and the head of the marketing team, so she had seen him many times in the company. He also was remarkably close to the CEOs since he had once been their manager, so it was not unusual seeing him with them.

Not wanting to keep him waiting, she quickly ran downstairs and greeted him with a polite bow.

"What brings you here?" she asked him confused. "I already told-"

"I know. I came as backup." He winked.

Mrs Kim did not take long to join them by the entrance as she was curious about who might visit Heejin. She was always looking for something she could use against her, so she would not miss such chance.

"Oh, good afternoon," Yeongjae greeted Mrs Kim. "Nice to meet you. I am Kang Yeongjae."

"Yes, hello..." she said scanning him up and down. "Who may you be?"

As Yeongjae was wearing a suit and he looked very polished, she could not say anything about his first impression, so Heejin was sure he was trying to find something else she could use.

"I am one of Heejin's workmates," Yeongjae said, startling Min and her. "Her senior, you may say."

"Workmate? She is unemployed," Mrs Kim remarked.

"No, she is not?" Yeongjae told her, pretending to be confused. "I am very sure I know who works in my team and Jang Heejin is one of those people."

Mrs Kim looked incredibly confused by that point as she tried to understand what was going on. She could not tell who was lying, but she was more inclined to believe Yeongjae as he apparently had no reason to lie to her.

"And where does she work?" Mrs Kim wondered.

"MusiQ Entertainment," he answered.

Heejin was terrified at that moment. He did not want him to tell her the truth but there was no way she could tell him anything without giving it away, so she just stayed silent and prayed for the best.

"MusiQ Entertainment? Isn't that a company for singers?" Mrs Kim asked. "Are you trying to waste not just time but money now?"

"No, no! She is on my team. She is on the marketing team," Yeongjae said.

Heejin then fully understood what he was trying to do and how he was supposed to be 'backup'. He was there to find a way to let Heejin go to the company without Mrs Kim saying anything and, since the CEOs going to her house would not be believable, he was there instead.
