Just as planned, the five members of the conflicted team gathered at the recording studio at half-past nine to start working on the song. After the messages they had received from their family members they felt far more energised than before, so they just wanted to start working and make the best performance they could.
"So, what were you thinking for the topic of the song?" Heejin asked the rest of the members as she turned on the laptop at the studio. "Topic, style or anything, really."
"I think we should actually be asking you about the topic, to be honest," Nari told her. "Is there anything you want to write about?"
She was not expecting them to leave her that decision, so she hesitated for a second as she thought about what she wanted to express. It was true that the theme fit her like a glove, but she did not know which route to take. She could take a positive or a negative approach to it and the feeling of the song would be vastly different.
"How about expressing how we like the idea of love but hate how painful it can be? How we are addicted to it despite how much it hurts," she finally said, making up her mind.
"Okay, I love the sound of that," Xia admitted. "We can talk about how even if we even break up with someone we just never truly give up on love because it's a feeling we get addicted to."
"I have to say this is already sounding amazing," Eunae said as she wrote down all the ideas. "We are sick of love but crave it nonetheless."
"We are lovesick," they all said at the exact same time.
"I think we already have an idea for the lyrics!" Minako announced. "We now need to talk about the music."
"I honestly think Heejin's idea of making the track with some actual instruments and not just midi could suit the theme," Eunae told them. "We can obviously add midi, especially for layering, but we can keep the verses, for example, with things like guitar, drums, bass..."
"Let me grab a guitar, wait," Heejin said quickly going inside the booth to pick up the acoustic one before sitting back in front of the mixing board. "Okay, I'll improvise a few things and see if you like any."
Heejin then played a few different melodies and styles, trying to make drastically different ones each time to see what they would want to use.
"This one!" Xia and Eunae exclaimed at the same time, when Heejin was doing a rather calm one. "Let's use this one."
"Alright, let's work with this, then. Eunae, do you want to be in charge of the track while I play or vice versa?" Heejin asked her.
"I'll leave the playing to you, since you are better at it," Eunae said.
After dividing the work, they started working on it, Heejin going inside the recording booth a few times to record whatever they liked so that they would not forget it. While doing that, however, Nari, Minako and Xia were awed by everything. They had never taken part in the creation of a track before, other than for small parts in lyrics, so it was something very new to them.
"Is this what you always do?" Minako asked them after a while.
"More or less, yes," Eunae answered.
"Sometimes lyrics come first and other times the instrumentals. Also, sometimes we have to start from scratch while other times we already have something half-done from earlier discarded tracks or lyrics that can guide us through it," Heejin elaborated. "It depends on composing styles and just what we overall need to do."
"I tend to work on the track first and then think about the lyrics while Heejin likes to work on both at the same time or even lyrics first," Eunae added. "At the end of the day what matters is that we get the songs done."
