66. WITHOUT YOU

The next morning, just as scheduled, the girls went to the biggest practice room after having breakfast to start preparing their performance with C1K. They only had three days to work with them and they did not know when they would be told about their next task, so time was something they definitely always had to be careful with and they did not waste a minute.

"Good morning, everyone!" Duyi said as he joined the practice room along with the rest of C1K. "Did you sleep well?"

"Better than the past week, that's for sure," Zia admitted.

"I'm glad. Should we start warming up, then?"

Although the girls had arrived earlier than them they had not had the chance to even warm up, so they played some music and warmed up together. The good thing about being with them was that since they were all close from training together it felt like they were just preparing for another evaluation at their company, so they soon were chatting and cracking some jokes instead of just making a few comments here and there like it happened with BCR Vision.

"Heejin, careful with your shoelace," Axel told her as she stretched her hamstrings, pointing to her loose shoelace. "You might trip."

"Oh, thanks!" she said and quickly tied it again. "I forgot to double-knot it."

"D-double knot! Double knot!" Eunae and Juiyu sang together before bursting out laughing.

"Remember when we did it for one of our evaluations?" Heejin recalled. "It was co-ed, if I remember it properly."

"Yeah, it was Joontae, Jax, Lou, Zia, Juna, Juiyu, you and me, if I remember properly," Eunae recalled. "Axel was meant to do Hwang Hyunjin's part instead of Heejin, but he sprained his ankle a week into rehearsals."

"I seriously loved that song, but I just had to sprain my ankle at the worst time possible. All because of a stupid basketball match a school where a classmate pushed me," Axel remembered. "Whose part did you all do? I can't remember."

"Zia was Chan, Joontae was Lee Know, Juiyu was Changbin, Heejin was Hyunjin, Jax was Felix, Lou was Seungmin, Juna was I.N and I was Jisung, I believe," Eunae told him and they nodded. "It was the first time we heard Heejin rapping."

"Never again, though," Heejin chuckled. "I'm not meant to rap."

"Look, you aren't that bad, you know? You just haven't trained for it. I know Lee Soojin told you your tone didn't suit rap when you first joined the company, but you have seriously improved since then and you aren't as bad as you think you are," Juiyu told her. "I would say you are around the average K-pop lead rapper, to be honest. Your demos don't lie."

Although she had not rapped on a song for years, all the demos for their songs were sung by her, which meant that she also had to do the rap parts. She also thoroughly enjoyed rap music which meant that, although she did not get proper training, she still practiced it a lot and therefore improved.

"I'm not a rapper, so let's leave my terrible attempt there," Heejin insisted. "It was fun doing Hwang Hyunjin's part, but it was clear I wasn't the one meant to do it."

Hyunjin's part fit Axel like a glove, which was why they had chosen him for it, but it was not meant for Heejin to do it so, although for the dance part of it she had no trouble, the rap part was not as good as it would have been with Axel. It had been a long time since they did it, however, so things could have changed.

"Do a bit together!" Eunae told them. "I really want to see it!"

"I don't even know if I remember it." Axel told her.

"The chorus? Just a teensy little bit? Come on!"

They could both remember the steps but they were just too nervous to do it. They had not practiced it in years, so they were afraid of messing up and making a fool of themselves.
