Right as Mrs Kim was about to hit Heejin, Minji grabbed her hand just as Axel pulled Heejin away from her. Heejin was not expecting her to do that and much less when they were in front of others, but she expected even less for Minji to step in between and stop her grandmother. As far as she knew they had a good relationship and Minji had always wanted her approval, so nothing made sense to her anymore.
"What do you think you are doing?" Mrs Kim asked her granddaughter in disbelief.
"I should be asking you that. Were you going to hit Heejin? Are you mad?" Minji asked her, baffling both Heejin and Axel. "If you can't stand her because she reminds you of your son's death, I can't do anything about it, but hitting her, really? Do you think that solves anything? You've already tortured her all her life for something that has nothing to do with her. Don't you have enough with that?"
"Don't talk about what you can't understand."
"It's okay, Minji. Let me talk to her," Heejin told Minji. "Thank you."
"I have absolutely nothing to talk about with you," Mrs Kim spat out. "A singer? Really? That's what your mother has been using the money she got after selling my son's goods for?"
"Selling what? What goods?" Heejin asked her.
"The money she got from selling his car, the house he inherited from his father in Jeju, the money of his cab license..." She told her. "All the things my son worked so hard for."
"The only thing she has sold was the cab license, the rest we still have it. Well, my brother has, to be more exact. The money of his cab license is on a savings account meant to be used for Hoon once he wants to buy a home of his own. What the hell are you talking about now?!" Heejin said, getting increasingly angrier with each second. "The only thing I have received from your son was your family and let me tell you it only brought me hell! Do you know how hard it has been for me to not hate my brother's father just because of the pain you have given me?! He isn't you, but the only thing I can think of when listening to my brother's surname or listening to stories about his father is you! You of all people! Can't you please just leave me alone already? What have I ever done to you!"
"You were never meant to happen!" Mrs Kim exclaimed, leaving the others completely silent. "If he hadn't died you wouldn't be here now! You should have never been born!"
"That's enough!" Axel finally stopped her. "What right do you have to say that?"
Heejin genuinely wanted to defend herself at that moment but hearing her say she should not have been born was just too much. She was trying to be strong, but every step she took only made her fall even greater.
"Say that again in front of me if you dare," Heejin's father said as he arrived with the rest of her family. "Say that again if you dare!"
Mrs Kim no longer felt as brave and did not utter a word after that, but Heejin's family was having none of it and Younghoon approached her, handing her her coat with force as he clenched his jaw.
"And this is how you lost the last thing you had from your son, Mrs Kim," Younghoon said to her. "Minji, tell us when your father goes back home so we can visit him. Make sure she's not there with you when you do."
After spitting out those words with pure hatred behind them, he turned around to check on his sister, who was trying to calm down as Axel muttered some reassuring words to her.
"Let's go, Hee. I'm sorry for bringing you here," Younghoon said, rubbing her back soothingly. "Let's go home."
As staying would only make things worse, they all left. Axel and Heejin went on Axel's car and the rest of them on the family's car, but they all went to the Jang household so they could keep an eye on Heejin.
