Instantly Sapphire looked at each other shocked that they had won while Onyx looked down in absolute devastation. They only had a difference of 2003 votes, meaning that they were really close to making it yet had not been able to. Still, they had to push those thoughts aside and congratulate the other team for their imminent debut.
What they did not realise at that moment was the absolute silence in the public. Usually when winners were announced they would be cheering and congratulating them, but at that moment it felt like a moment of grief more than a moment of celebration.
"Congratulations, Sapphire," Heejin said to her microphone. "You deserve it."
As soon as she said that, everyone in Sapphire started crying and had to turn away from their friends. They just could not look at them at that moment. They had won the competition, sure, but it had been with a very tight difference and by the VIP votes instead of the public votes.
"I'm sorry!" Nari said, finally approaching the girls and hugging Heejin, who was standing the closest. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay," Heejin said, rubbing her back. "This was a competition and one team had to lose."
Right when she said that, the public finally made some noise, but to chant "Breakthrough" instead of Sapphire, which had everyone confused. They would not stop, so Axel skipped the rules and took out his phone to check what people were saying online about the results.
A 2000 vote difference and only one gets to debut?
Onyx won the public vote but Sapphire won the VIP vote, it doesn't make sense that only Sapphire gets to debut.
I knew that the final was going to be brutal, but this felt like literally stepping on Onyx
Why can't they just debut together?
I prefer Breakthrough as a whole and even the votes have been really divided, why can only one team win?
This is why group votes don't work on these competitions. They should have allowed the public to vote for individuals instead.
Breakthrough is better as one team.
MusiQ should just debut them together.
They can't even properly celebrate it. This show is way too brutal.
Isn't there another way? I feel bittersweet about this ending.
Axel showed Lin the comments and she quickly ran backstage to talk to ResQ about it. Absolutely no one seemed to be happy with the result, not even the ones who had voted for Sapphire, so they knew they had to do something about it.
"Professional jury, please come backstage," Mika's voice said through the speakers.
No one knew what was happening at that moment, but at the same time no one seemed to care. The staff were capturing what the girls said to each other to keep the audience entertained, but truthfully no one was paying attention. They just wanted to know why there was a meeting going on backstage.
"I'm really sorry," Axel said approaching Eunae, as she was sitting down on the floor far away from the rest because she needed some alone time. "You were incredible, and I can't be any prouder."
