Chapter 31

Usagi thirty one

It was dawn now, and Sakura had spent the night trying to get rid of Sasuke's temperature.

As she shook off the feeling of sleepiness, a sudden noise woke her up.

... It was a squirrel. However, nothing is ever as it seems. Not even a minute after the squirrel had been scared off, three ninja showed up.

"You've been up all night standing guard, eh?" It was the three sound nin. "As of now, you’re off duty. Just wake Sasuke and Usagi for us. We want to take them on.”

"What are you talking about?!" Sakura said. "I know that some guy named Orochimaru is the one who's been pulling the strings, so what do you want?! What does this mark on Sasuke’s neck mean? You can't fight them in this condition, so get out of here!"

After Sakura’s speech, the sound nin decided that they would destroy Sakura along with the two they intended to fight.

After setting off the trap she'd set up, the sound nin moved to attack Sakura, but...

Rock Lee to the rescue!

"W-Where did you come from?" Sakura asked.

"I came... Because you needed me." Lee smiled. (He's such a cutie <3)

"I... I don't know how to thank you... You're a lifesaver."

"I promised when we met... To protect you until death do us part!"

The sound nin studied there new opponent, and after some consideration, a decision was made. "I guess it can't be helped... Zaku, Sasuke is all yours. Kin, you take Usagi."

"With pleasure." Kin said, a cocky smirk plastered to his face.

As Lee and Dosu, the bandaged sound nin, started fighting, Kin made her move.

She flung three shuriken straight at the sleeping Usagi, but one inch before they hit her face, she caught all three.

"So you're awake now." Kin smirked.

Usagi threw the three shuriken straight back at Kin. 'Nobody wakes me up by throwing shuriken in my face... This bitch's gonna pay!'

Activating her Preta Path, Usagi fought in a hand to hand battle, but with each touch, Usagi would drain some of Kin’s chakra.

The Preta Path grants the ability to absorb ones chakra, in the form of a jutsu or with contact. So, if Kakashi charged at Usagi with a Chidori for example, Usagi could absorb the jutsu before it hit her... Well, with enough practice she could. Another example is what she's doing now. With contact, Usagi can drain the users chakra, and if enough has been drained, they'll lose consciousness... Or die. Depends how far you take it really. Usagi wasn’t too fussed about keeping her opponent alive, either.

Ok. Back to the battle. As Kin and Usagi continued to fight, Lee had been tossed to the ground, and Dosu and Zaku were both about to charge at Sakura.

Usagi quickly ran in front of her pink haired teammate, taking most of the incoming shuriken hits for her.

"Usagi!" Sakura shrieked, shocked the redhead had done such a thing.

As Usagi pulled out some kunai, Kin saw it fit to keep Sakura hostage, jumping in and grabbing her while Usagi was busy.

"Lovely hair..." Kin said, grabbing Sakura’s hair. "So much more shiny than mine... What ninja technique is that? The art of deep conditioning? You're a disgrace to shinobi... Fussing about with your looks when you should concentrate on your training!"

Usagi was about to swoop in and save Sakura, but a sudden wave of screeching sounds sent her crouching to the ground.

'Shit! I let my guard down!' Usagi grasped her ears, which were now dripping with blood. The damned Sound nin had hit her with their jutsu.

As Zaku walked towards Sasuke and Naruro, Usagi stood back up.

'Shadow clone jutsu.' Soon, two clones stood beside her.

"You think clones will be enough to defeat me?" Zaku laughed, sending another wave of sound towards Usagi.

Holding her arms out, Usagi absorbed the approaching chakra, only feeling a slight bit of the jutsus effect.

"What?!" Zaku and Dosu both gasped. "Is that the rinnegans power?!"

Leaving a now short haired Sakura to deal with Kin, Usagi faced the other two sound nin.

As the two sent blasts of sound at the red haired girl, she absorbed the majority of them, and let her shadow clones do the real work.

Her Deva Path clone sent Zaku flying into the air, and her Asura Path clone gave Dosu a nice beating.

"You bitch!" Zaku yelled, picking himself up off the ground.

After eliminating the clones, both Zaku and Dosu charged at Usagi.

Unable to move quickly enough, she got caught in a punch from Zaku, which tossed her to the ground.

"I'll deal with her." Dosu smirked.

"Whatever. I'll go beat up the pink one." Zaku said, walking off towards Sakura.

As Usagi scrambled to Sakura’s aid, a hand grabbed her wrist, which sent a sharp pain all through her arm. "You're fighting me now." Dosu smiled creepily.

As Usagi struggled to break free of Dosu’s grasp, he noticed the large amount of blood that stained her sleeve. "Looks like you cut your arm pretty bad... Let's make it worse, eh?"

As if the huge cut Orochimaru gave her wasn't enough, Dosu pulled out a kunai and stabbed her arm in the same spot, worsening the already deep cut.

Usagi pulled away franticly, feeling a sharp sting I'm her arm. Blood stained her clothing and was practically dripping from her as she moved. This amount of pain was not normal... There was only one thing Usagi could think of to explain the pain. Her cut was infected.

As she and Dosu fought, Usagi ignored the burning pain in her arm.

As she continued fighting, the distance between the two closed, giving Dosu the perfect opportunity to send a wave of sound at Usagi.

Not having enough time to dodge and absorb the chakra, it threw her back, sending her flying back to where Sakura was also in trouble.

As the three sound approached the two girls, help arrived.

It was Ino, Shikamaru and Choji.

"Ino..." Sakura gasped at the sight of her rival.

"Did you think I was gonna let you hog all the glory in front of Sasuke?"  Ino smirked.

Usagi stood up again, activating her Deva path. If it's sound they fight with... Usagi would have to send it straight back at them.

After Zaku called Choji fat, he was riled up and the battle began.

Choji charged at Zaku, but was repelled by one of his sound waves. As Dosu moved to help his teammate, Shikamaru caught him in his shadow possession jutsu.

As Ino took over Kin’s body, Zaku blasted a wave of sound at her.

Moving quickly, Usagi quickly pulled Kin’s body to her, saving Ino from the blast.

"You would try hurt your own comrade?!" Ino -well, Kin- shouted.

"Our objective is not some stupid scroll... Nor have we any interest in passing this exam... We're after Sasuke and Usagi."

As Shikamaru’s shadow possession gave out, Dosu smirked and spoke up again. "So... Your trick only works for five minutes at a time, huh? And the blonde girls jutsu... Any pain inflicted on her host affects her real body too! We can kill her by killing Kin!"

"You're despicable." Another voice spoke up. It was... Neji and Tenten!!

"They just keep on coming." Zaku laughed.

"The kid with the bowl haircut belongs to us..." Neji explained. "Now that you've hurt him, you'll have to answer to us!" With his byakugan now activated, he noticed something off about Sasuke’s chakra.

Usagi also noticed his chakra was different. It was... Dark.

"If you find us so despicable..." Dosu said. "Why don't you do something about it?!"

"From the looks of it, we don't have to." Neji pointed to a now fully awake Sasuke.

Black marks crawled over his skin. "Who was it...? Who beat you up like that?"

"It was us." Zaku laughed.

Bad move, sound nin... And Sasuke. After his little speech about being an avenger and feeling powerful, he got himself a punch straight across the face from Usagi.

She was pissed off now. No way would she let Sasuke give in to the darkness.

"Thanks..." The black marks faded from his skin. Usagi had no idea what it was, but she knew those marks weren't good.

She nodded in reply, in place of saying no problem. She really hadn't minded punching Sasuke across the face... But now, it's time to fight.

'No more holding back.' Usagi charged at the nearest sound nin.

"You're already beaten up. You expect to beat me in that condition?"

A small smirk crept onto Usagi face. With the wave of her arm, Zaku was flying through the air.

Usagi jumped up to his height, and kicked him down to the ground, where he landed with a slam.

Still coming back down to the ground, she pulled out her fan and made a few quick hand signs.

'Fire style: fireball jutsu!' A huge burst of fire charged at Zaku. Usagi then waved her fan at the flame, doubling it in size and power.

"Argh!" Zaku shouted, feeling the flames burn his arms. That did some serious damage.

Usagi landed back down on the floor effortlessly.

'She took out Zaku so easily... In a matter of seconds!' Dosu thought. 'No way can we beat her... This isn't even her true power! And if Sasuke fights with the curse mark...'

Put in a corner, Dosu pulled out his scroll. "Here. Like this, we have no chance of defeating you. Please accept this scroll, and allow us to leave in return..."

After considering it, Usagi nodded, picking up the earth scroll.

As Dosu left with his teammates, Sakura shouted out. "Wait! Tell me who Orochimaru is! What did he do to Sasuke?! And why?!"

"I don't know." Dosu replied honesty. "We're just following orders."

The sound nin then left, leaving the leaf ninja to clean up the mess. "What happened to me...?" Sasuke questioned.

Usagi deactivated her rinnegan, sensing that the sound nin had actually left peacefully.

It was then she realized that she could barely feel her arm anymore.

"What kind of power were you using?" Sasuke asked Usagi.

Usagi fumbled to pull out her notebook, but dropped it as soon as she held it. Her arm was really hurting now.

"You're arm!!" Sakura gasped, noticing the blood that stained her sleeve.

Noticing she was injured, Neji jumped down from his tree branch and walked over to her.

As Sakura rolled up her sleeve to insect the wound, Usagi winced in pain.

"Oh my Kami..." She gasped at the sight of the wound. There was a huge cut running along her arm, fresh blood still pouring from the wound. Sakura also noticed that the cut was really deep.

"The cut's infected." Doctor Neji pointed out. Usagi rolled her eyes. Did he really have to point out the obvious like that?

"W-What do we do?!" Sakura asked.

"She needs stitches to close it up, and it needs to be cleaned and disinfected... At the moment, all we can do is bandage it."

As Usagi’s arm was bandaged, Shikamaru and Choji kicked Naruto awake.

"EVERYBODY GET DOWN!! THERES NO TELLING WHERE HE IS!!" Naruro jumped down to the ground.

"You really are an idiot, aren't you?" Shikamaru sighed. "Just watching you pisses me off!"

Upon fully waking up, Naruto ran towards Sakura. "Hey Sakura! You're hair!"

"Oh..." After making up an excuse as to why her hair was short now, Naruto questioned why a crowd of Konoha genin were there.

"Explanations are so troublesome..." Shikamaru sighed.

"These guys saved us." Sakura said. Naruro then noticed Lee.

"Hey!! I know you, Bushy Brows!!"

"Don't talk to Lee like that!!" Sakura punched Naruto straight across the jaw.

"He's so clueless." Shikamaru sighed.

"You said it." Choji agreed.

Usagi also nodded in agreement. Her teammate sure was an idiot, but a... Smart idiot... Sometimes.

"Usagi... That sound nin said something about the power of the rinnegan... What is that?" Sakura asked.

[My kekkei genkai.] The young girl wrote with her good arm.

"So it's like Sasuke’s sharingan?" She questioned, curious to know Usagi’s power.

[Kinda. But I can't read movements like he can. Or cast genjutsu. I have a whole bunch of cool jutsus though. And I can see chakra and talk to animals.]

"Talk to animals?!" She looked at Usagi as if she were crazy. "So that puppy you had before... You were talking to it?!"

Usagi nodded, and then remembered that Ringo had disappeared suddenly the day before due to her lack of chakra.

'I hope she's alright.'

Snapping Usagi out of her thoughts, Ino suddenly yelled. "Hey, Sakura! I'll help you even out your hair!"

"Well aren't you sweet?" Sakura growled, but smiled, her true intentions seeping through the gaps in her grinding teeth. It was always funny watching the two discreetly fight.

While Sakura had her hair fixed, Sasuke had some time to think.

'Usagi single handedly tool out that guy... While she was injured... And she made it look easy! She may be mentally weak, but physically...'

"How did you..." Sasuke spoke up, but then reworded his question. "Have you been holding back this whole time?"

Neji raised an eyebrow. "You mean you've never seen her fight before?"

"Not like that... " Sasuke said. "Is that what your full power is?"

"That was nothing." Neji said. He was surprised that Usagi had held back so much. Then again, she had said that she didn't want to accidentally kill anyone while training, so even he hadn't seen her true powers.

In truth, Usagi’s true power terrified her. She would always hold back, in fear of...

Sasuke sighed in defeat. One day, he would beat Usagi... Maybe, with his new power, he could defeat her...
