Usagi five

"Enter."
Kakashi made his way into the Hokage’s office, Usagi following behind the ANBU silently.
"Usagi, are you alright?" The Hokage asked, eyes full of sorrow and concern. He had been informed of Itsuki's suicide earlier in the day and was concerned for the child.
Usagi nodded, twiddling her thumbs.
"Lord Hokage,” Kakashi spoke up. “I would like to ask for permission to act as Usagi's guardian." He said. Both the Hokage and Usagi’s jaws almost hit the floor at his bold act.
"Kakashi, that is a very big responsibly." The Hokage said. "You're only eighteen years old. Raising a child is far too big a task for someone your age."
Kakashi wouldn't give up. He saw a lot of himself in Usagi, and he felt the need to protect her, especially after her real father had left her so quickly. "Please, Lord Hokage." He bowed his head, which rendered the old man speechless.
"You're serious..." The Hokage gawked.
Usagi watched on in silence. Did Kakashi just say he wanted to be... Her dad?
"Kakashi, do you have any knowledge whatsoever on raising a child?" The Hokage asked rather sternly. "A young girl for that matter? She’s only three years old-"
The Hokage was cut off by Usagi’s sudden movement. She raised her hand, showing four fingers.
"You're four years old?" He asked. Usagi nodded. "Itsuki said you were three."
Usagi frowned. Not only did he forget her birthday, but he killed himself the same day.
Noticing her troubled expression, the Hokage grabbed some paper and a pencil. Usagi then wrote down a single sentence.
[Yesterday was my fourth birthday.]
Both the Hokage and Kakashi read the sentence, then looked at the young girl with sympathetic eyes.
"I'm sorry, child." The Hokage said with a sigh. Even though most of her past was unknown, with one glance, you can tell that she's had a hard life.
With another small sigh, the Hokage continued to lecture Kakashi. "You are one of our top ANBU members, Kakashi. You're away on missions a lot. Raising a child with such a full schedule isn't going to work."
"I could do most of my work in the village, and if I need to leave the village, I could always ask someone to look after Usagi while I'm gone." Kakashi said, determined to care for the girl.
"You're one of our finest ANBU. One of our most requested for that fact. Do you want to give that up so you can care for Usagi properly?" The Hokage asked.
"Yes." Kakashi said, not a single ounce of hesitation in his voice.
Usagi stared at Kakashi in shock. He'd known her for only three days... And he was willing to give up his top ANBU position for her?
Never before had she met someone so kind. For the first time in years Usagi felt... Happy.
A stray tear fell from Usagi’s eye. But these tears weren't sad like the other ones were, these ones were happy tears.
As the Hokage noticed that Usagi had started crying, the young girl suddenly hugged Kakashi. Someone wanted her. She's never felt so happy before.
"... How can I say no to that?" The Hokage smiled at the sight. Usagi looked so happy, despite the fact she was silently bawling her eyes out. "Alright, Kakashi. You win."
"Thank you." He said. The Hokage pulled out some forms.
"First off, Usagi, you need to fill out an information sheet so you can become a full Konoha citizen. Just fill out what you know." He said, sliding one form toward the girl.
Usagi filled out the form. Most of it was just basic information. Name, age, birthday, height, weight, blood type, etc. But there were also a few things about ninja rankings and such that Usagi didn't quite understand. She left those spots blank.
With a quick glance over the sheet, the Hokage pulled out the next form. "Kakashi, you need to read this form too." It was the adoption paper.
Both Usagi and Kakashi read over the form. With a signature from the both of them, the Hokage took the form back.
As he was about to sign the form and make the adoption official, the Hokage noticed something.
"Is that a bruise on your cheek?" After inspecting Usagi’s cheek, the Hokage quickly turned to Kakashi, who avoided eye contact and pretended he'd never heard him say anything.
"Kakashi..." The Hokage growled. "She was in your care for under 12 hours, and she's already injured?!"
"... It won't happen again." Kakashi said, slight annoyance evident in his voice. He was hoping that the Hokage wouldn't notice.
The Hokage sighed. "I can't believe I'm doing this..." He muttered, signing the form. "Kakashi Hatake, you are now the official guardian of Usagi Senju. Congratulations.”
"Thank you, Lord Hokage." Kakashi bowed his head before turning his attention to the smiling child next to him. "Usagi Hatake. I think it sounds nice."
Usagi hugged her new dad, making both him and the Hokage smile.
"Alright." The Hokage said, bringing a more serious tone back to the conversation. "Since she hasn't got any belongings here, you'll need to buy her some new clothes and whatnot... Next year, she can start classes in the academy, but for now, get her to read up on the basics... Make sure you feed her properly. Due to the poison she had, she'll be quite a bit smaller than the other students her age, so to make up for that, make sure she's healthy and strong..."
The list went on and on. 'Parenting may be harden than I thought...' Kakashi thought to himself. His eye twitched slightly as the Hokage kept listing the things he had to do. ‘Dad made it seem so easy…’
As the list grew longer, the Hokage realized that both Usagi and Kakashi weren't listening. Kakashi looked deep in thought while Usagi was gazing out the window behind the Hokage.
"Are you listening?!" The two snapped back to reality.
The Hokage sighed. He hoped that little Usagi didn't pick up some of Kakashi’s bad habits. While he was an excellent shinobi, he did have a few rather annoying traits. Laziness being one of them.
"Before you leave, I have one bit of information that I need you to actually listen to." The Hokage said, pulling out a scroll from one of his desk drawers. "This scroll contains a small amount of information on the rinnegan. Now, Usagi, your eyes are a very powerful ocular jutsu, the rarest and most powerful of them all to be exact. When you're older, you should train to master your dojutsu, but for now, this information should be sufficient."
The Hokage handed the scroll to Usagi. The Hokage thought that her eyes were good, which confused Usagi. Were they a curse or a blessing?
The Hokage smiled before the two made their exit. "Good luck, Kakashi." ‘You’re going to need it.’_____________________________________________________________________________
AN/ And another chapter is here. A cute chapter actually :3 The thought of daddy Kakashi just makes me smile. Reading over the chapter now, it does seem a little odd how he’s taking her in after knowing her for such a short time but it’s kinda like love at first sight, but for parents because Usagi is only 4 and that would be kinda creepy…
I’m rambling. It’s 3am, that’s probably why.
Okay I should sleep now.
Thanks for reading :)
