Usagi 100

>>>>CHAPTER 100<<<<

>>>>Wish Upon the Night Sky<<<<

Usagi was seated down on the green grass, the soft wind blowing through her hair as she sat hugging her knees to her chest.

Her bright red hair which had reached the back of her knees just the previous week now only reached down to the bottom of her shoulder blades. A rather large chunk of her hair had been sliced off during her battle with Madara, leaving it uneven and messy. With Ino's help, Usagi had decided to cut it off in order to even it out.

It had bothered her, cutting off the long hair that had taken her so many years to grow, but ultimately she hadn't had much of a choice. After cutting off more than two thirds of her hair, Usagi certainly felt much lighter, and she was sure if she were to step on a scale, her weight would have dropped by a few kilos at least...

But no matter how much lighter she felt, nothing could remove the aching pain that was weighing down her heart.

She wasn't sure how many hours she had been sitting there for, just staring at the stone in front of her, but it felt like it had been an eternity.

Carved into the grave in front of her was a name.

Neji Hyuga

As Usagi stared at the flower covered grave, observing each small gift that had been placed on it.

Amongst the many colourful flowers and sticks of incense that had long burned out were an array of personal items left behind by Neji's friends and family.

Lee and Guy had left some small weights, so that even from beyond the grave he would continue to train and grow stronger. Tenten left him one of her favourite kunai, and Hinata had carefully placed his Leaf headband down, polishing the metal plate before setting it down on his grave.

Neji was loved, even more so than he had ever realized.

He died a brave shinobi. He died an honourable and noble death.

But Usagi didn't care about that. She couldn't care less about honour... all she wanted was Neji.

What she would have given to have just melted into his arms, to fall asleep in his warm embrace, the sounds of his even breaths easing her mind into a peaceful slumber.

She wanted nothing more than to see him, to hold him, to love him.

She didn't cry as she sat in the darkening outdoors. Only a few odd people were left in the cemetery as the time hit 8pm. There was a mother with a young toddler, sobbing in front of a grave, and a few shinobi who were praying for the friends they had lost.

Loss... it was such a tragic thing, yet something so prevalent in every ninjas life.

"Usagi." A gentle and familiar voice spoke up.

Slowly, Usagi pulled her gaze from Neji's grave, glancing towards the figure next to her.

"It's getting late. Have you eaten anything?" It was Kakashi, his headband pulled over one eye out of habit.

Usagi shook her head as she stood up. She hadn't eaten anything since yesterday. She didn't think she could stomach anything at the moment... she was too depressed to eat.

"You need to eat." Kakashi said. "Come on, let's go. You have to travel back to Ame tomorrow, you need your strength."

But Usagi didn't move, instead, she looked back towards her husband's grave.
