Usagi 93
>>>>CHAPTER 93<<<<
>>>>The Tragedy That War Brings<<<<
The first day of war alone brought on 40000 casualties.
40000 lives, 40000 ninja's came to an end just like that.
"You should have expected this kind of tragedy."
Seated down inside one of the many tents set up for shinobi to rest and recover in was Usagi. She was sitting down with a frown on her face, having just heard the news of the number of casualties. It was half of their army, gone in a mere day.
How many of them were her men she wondered.
How many more lives would it take for this to be over?
"They didn't die in vain." Neji said, kneeling down in front of Usagi and taking hold of her injured wrist. "Our enemies' army is down to half the size it was before."
The White Zetsu army was strong.
Neji brought a bandage to her small wrist, covering the large cut he had just cleaned out. All the medics were busy treating and caring for those who were greatly injured during the first day of battle, he figured the least he could do was treat such a minor injury himself.
"But they died." Usagi bit her lip, a frown on her face.
During their fight with Zabuza and Haku, Kakashi had sustained a rather bad cut to his lower abdomen. He was a little low on blood, but otherwise alright. Sakura was treating him of course, having kicked Usagi out after saying how her hovering around her dad was distracting her.
"But what... what about my wrist?" Usagi had asked, a saddened look on her face as Sakura pushed her out of the tent where Kakashi was being treated.
"Go put a bandage on it. You'll live." Mercilessly, Sakura had kicked Usagi out.
Her dad had given his daughter a sympathetic smile, telling her to go eat something and get some rest so she would be alright to fight in the morning. But that didn't change her mood, it only reminded her off the fact that she had barely eaten all day.
Stupid war, stupid rations, stupid injuries...
Usagi had been walking with her head down, kicking at ground below her with each step she took. She wasn't paying attention to where she was going, hence why she found herself bumping head first into a rather toned chest... into a rather familiar toned chest.
She had looked up to see none other than her husband. "You're bleeding." He commented, noticing her wrist.
Then, her stomach growled. "... I'm hungry too."
He pulled her into the tent he was staying in for the night after that, and that was how they ended up in their current positions, discussing the tragic loss of 40000 men their army had suffered.
"We're all going to die eventually." Neji said, standing up once the bandage around Usagi's frail wrist was secured. "Some sooner than others."
"... I don't think it's fair." Usagi said, standing up alongside the Hyuga. "Most of us still have... our whole lives ahead of us..."
"We're shinobi. We live each day as if it's our last." He said as they exited the tent, walking out into the near pitch black night. The sun had long set, yet so many shinobi were still fighting. Usagi wondered how many of them would get to see the sun rise.
