Chapter 26

Usagi twenty six

It's been two weeks since Usagi’s strange first encounter with Ringo.

She checked with the Hokage to see if there were any records of a Nagato Uzumaki, but there were no official records of anyone by the name.

She had also practiced her summoning and sensing abilities and was finally beginning to get the hang of them. She had summoned Ringo again once and also found out some more details on this Nagato person.

While the puppy refused to say anything about Nagato upfront, saying it wouldn't be right of her to do so, she did say that they looked rather similar. Apparently she looked a lot like he did as a child.

Usagi’s curiosity was at an all-time high. Nagato shared her last name, her eyes, and now her looks?! While she figured the looks was probably a clan thing, she couldn't help but wonder what he looked like, and more importantly, who he was.

Anyway, with her newly discovered abilities, something strange happened one afternoon.

Team seven were making their way back from a mission.

"We'll call it a day now. I've got to hand in my report on today's missions." Kakashi said.

Usagi knew that there was a meeting today, and that her dad had to attend said meeting, so Usagi would be walking home by herself today.

"Then I'm going home." Sasuke turned and began walking away.

"Hey, Sasuke! Wait up!" Sakura ran behind her beloved. "I was wondering if... If we, you know... Just you and I... Could work on our, um, teamwork?"

"You're just as bad as Naruto." Sakura’s face fell at Sasuke’s insult. "Why waste your time flirting when you could be training? Even Naruto’s skills are better than yours." Sasuke then turned and walked away, leaving a depressed pinkette behind.

"Forget about Sasuke, you and I can go train together!" Naruto said.

Ignoring his idiotic students, Kakashi turned to his daughter. "I'll see you tonight."

"Bye dad." Usagi smiled as her dad waved and then poofed away.

As Usagi made her way back to her house to start cooking some dinner, Naruro called out to her, stopping her in the middle of the path.

"Hey Usagi! I found someone your height!" He pointed to Konohamaru.

An Angry Usagi stormed over to Naruto. [I'm at least three inches taller than him.]

"You're still short." Naruto said, looking down at Usagi.

"Hey redhead! You wanna play ninja with us too?!" Konohamaru said.

Sakura then butted in. "What's a ninja doing playing ninja?" She then continued to glare at him.

"... Hey boss, is she your girlfriend?" Konohamaru asked, his eyes not so discreetly glancing from the blonde to Sakura.

"For a little guy, you sure catch on quick." Naruto laughed sheepishly, that is until Sakura punched him square in the face.

"You witch!" Konohamaru yelled at Sakura. Two seconds later, he was in the same condition as Naruto.

[Child abuse!] Usagi threw her notebook at Sakura.

"What the hell was that for?!" She yelled.

"Is she even a real girl?!" Konohamaru asked.

Upon hearing that comment, Sakura snapped. "THAT'S IT!"

Naruto, Usagi, and the three kids then ran for their lives... Until Konohamaru smashed straight into a tall Suna ninja.

"That hurt, brat." The cat eared ninja picked Konohamaru up off the ground by his scarf.

"Knock it off." A second blonde Suna ninja advised.

Feeling a number of chakras around, Usagi decided against jumping in for the moment.

"PUT HIM DOWN!!" Naruto yelled.

"I just want to play with him a little, while we wait for him to get here." The cat eared ninja said to the blonde.

As Naruto charged for him, he was easily sent to the floor without having a hand laid on him.

Chakra strings... Usagi recognized them instantly. He was a puppet master.

As she noticed the ninja was going to punch Konohamaru, she stepped in, catching Konohamaru as he fell to the ground after Sasuke had hit the cat eared ninja with a rock.

"What are you guys doing in our village?" He asked, sitting up in a tree.

As Usagi carried Konohamaru back to Naruto, she sensed five other chakras nearby, the odd thing was, two of the chakras belonged to one person.

"Another little brat..." Cat ears glared at Sasuke.

"Get lost." Sasuke glared back.

"How cool!" All surrounding females, excluding Usagi, fangirled at the sight.

As the cat eared ninja pulled a puppet off his back, a nearby chakra Usagi had sensed made itself known.

"Kankuro, don't." It was a young red haired genin from Suna, carrying a giant gourd on his back. "You're a disgrace to our entire village."

"G-Gaara..." Kankuro stuttered, obviously scared by this newcomers presence.

"It annoys me that you'd lose your cool in a quarrel with children. Have you forgotten why we came here?"

"B-But Gaara... They started it. The little one slammed into me!"

"Shut up... Or I'll kill you."

As Usagi inspected the so called 'Gaara', a voice echoed through her head.

'I know you can hear me...' It was the boys second chakra speaking. His demon.

'... Can you hear me?' Usagi thought. She was confused. She was hearing a demon’s voice in her head. She had a very good reason to be confused.

'I can.' The demon spoke. Judging by the glance Gaara gave her, he knew the two were speaking, but he could only hear his demon talking, so he wasn't sure what was going on.

'You're a tailed beast, right?' Usagi thought.

'I am. I am Shukaku, the one tail. And you, are of the rinnegan eyes.'

'What do you know of my eyes?' Usagi was slightly defensive of her eyes. They were a touchy subject.

'Relax, I won't hurt you. I once knew someone with those eyes, and you remind me of him.'

'So even a demon can love...' Usagi thought. 'Who was the person you once knew?'

'The Sage of Six Paths. Now, I believe you should pay attention again. My Host is going to be speaking to you.'

Usagi had reacted to the situation very well. A lot of strange things had been happening lately, but this one had to top the cake. Speaking to a demon… She was practically making small talk with a demon! But she had other things to think about right now.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Gaara and Sasuke were talking. "And your name is?"

"Uchiha Sasuke."

"And the short girl?" Gaara said, glancing at Usagi.

Taking her notebook back from Sakura, she wrote down her name.

[Usagi Hatake. Nice to meet you, Gaara.]

After giving me a funny look, he spoke up again. "Can you not speak?"

[I can speak. I choose not to.]

"Hm." Gaara continued to stare at Usagi, as if he was trying to figure out the girl, and how she was able to talk to Shukaku.

In truth, Usagi had no idea how the two had spoken at all. She considered the possibilities, and it seemed most likely that Shukaku had used his powers to talk to her, seeing as Usagi can only communicate through contact. But the question of why he had spoken to her still remained.

"Hey! Hey! Don't you wanna know my name?!" Naruto yelled.

"No." Gaara answered bluntly. "Let's go."

With that, the sand ninja disappeared.

Remembering that there were nearly no ingredients left in the house, Usagi quickly pulled out her wallet, counting the money she had left.

... There wasn't much money left at all. She spent it all buying new books. She made her way to the store, clinging to what little money she had left.

Spending wisely, Usagi purchased a small bag of rice and the only vegetables she could afford. A carrot and a turnip.

'It'll have to do for tonight.' Usagi sighed, setting down her shopping bag on her kitchen bench. ‘I’ll borrow some money from dad when he get’s home for tomoorws dinner.’

As she let the rice and vegetables boil, she rummaged through the fridge, finding some leftover fish from yesterday.

'Still good.' Usagi smiled, heating up the leftovers.

Just in time for dinner, Kakashi made his way home.

The two ate their meal together, and then went on to talk about none other than the chunin exams.

"I recommended you all for the exam." Kakashi said.

"Do you think that they're ready?" Usagi questioned. Naruro and Sasuke could probably handle it, but Sakura...

"When I give you all the forms, I'm gonna say it's an individual choice, so Sakura isn't pressured into tagging along."

"That's nice, but is a four man team allowed to enter the exams?"

"I pulled a few strings here and there."

Usagi smiled as the two finished eating.

Chunin exams... Sounds fun.

AN/ I’m going to try and update once a week starting from today :3 Hopefully every Wednesday!  I’m writing a lot of new chapters (instead of doing holiday homework oops) so even if the newer chapters are shorter, they’ll be coming out more regularly.
