Chapter 1&2

Usagi one

"It's a girl." The nurse held the newborn child in her arms. She was awfully quiet for a newborn baby. Instead of crying like many other newborns, she lay silently, not making a single noise.

At the sight of her newborn baby girl, a few tears fell from Rei's eyes. She was now the mother of a little girl.

"She's beautiful." Itsuki, the father of the newborn child, looked at the baby girl, tears forming in his dark eyes. "Just like her mother."

The nurse wrapped the baby in a blanket, passing the child to her mother. The little girl had fair skin and bright red hair, much like her mother.

Rei held the small child in a tight embrace. It was her firstborn child, and she was absolutely beautiful. As the small child opened her eyes, they shone a bright silver colour, resembling the shining moon.

"Usagi." Rei smiled. "Her name will be Usagi. Her eyes shine like the moon… They look just like my fathers did..." (Usagi=Moon) (AN/ it means rabbit really, but when used as a name, it can also mean moon. There's a whole legend behind it about a rabbit pounding mochi on the moon. There you go. Some main character name backstory, and we’re only 200 words in.)

"It's perfect." Itsuki said, hugging his wife and child. "She's perfect, you're perfect. Everything's perfect."

They were the perfect family.

Until Usagi started growing up.

On the first night out of hospital with Usagi, Rei sang to the child. She sang the very song her mother sang to her when she was young.

"Moshi ano hi no ame ga
yonde itanara
kitto sure chikatte itadakeka mo
itsumo toori no jikan ni
basu ga kitetanara
kimi to wa deau koto ga nakattanda ne

If the rain that day 
Had stopped 
I'm sure we probably would have passed right by each other 
If the bus had come 
At its usual time 
We may not have ever met

Even our lines and our gestures
Have come to resemble each other's
As if we've always known each other since forever
Texting at the same time
Thinking of the same thing
Maybe we are pulled together by the red thread of fate

It is as if all the coincidences
Have been decided from the start
Our fates are to cross by each other, so I believe
