THE SILENCE WAS DEAFENING. The once happy room was immediately being drained of it's joy – everything was now far too quiet for anyone's liking – no noise or sound echoing across the walls. Their ears strained and ached for just the slightest sound so they'd know they hadn't lost their hearing. It took another few moments of silence – of two worried and weary looks from both Remus and Sirius – for Rebecca to finally blink away from the printed pages of The Daily Prophet that were tightly clutched within her hands. The very pages that had been printed over and over again – sent out to countless of families – all claiming she was dead.
"We...we know how it looks..." Sirius began softly, his hand curling around one of hers; trying to ease the newspaper out of her grasp, "but...there's been a plan..."
"These papers were sent out today," Rebecca whispered lowly as dread and fear encased her chest like a metal serpent, slithering between her ribs and squeezing and freezing the breath from her lungs, "t-these papers – do y-you not understand what th-this even means?"
There was a sudden slam to the bedroom window, making them all jolt in surprise and each of their heads snap towards the familiar ruddy owl that now sat upon the windowsill. Errol was fluffing his molting feathers as he waited for someone to prop the window up further so he'd be able to slip inside – though no one made a move. He hooted loudly, his beady eyes narrowing slightly before he began pecking at the glass. Remus stood from his seat with a small release of air, nearing the window to push the glass up and allow the impatient owl entry. Errol took flight once more, ignoring the two men and settling atop Rebecca's blanket-covered knees with a little hop.
"It's from the Weasleys," She spoke quietly, her mouth had gone terribly dry as she gently began to unravel the letter from Errol's outstretched leg, "t-they've all probably just read...why haven't you told them?"
"We can't just tell anybody," Sirius answered quietly, eyeing the letter before his gaze flickered upward and met her own, "it compromises you and them."
"They aren't just anybody –"
"Dumbledore believes –"
"I don't care what he believes in," Rebecca interjected Remus hoarsely, her breath staggering as she sat up forcefully, "he's been lying to all of you for years now – lying to Harry –"
"W-What are you–?"
"I heard part of the prophecy when Harry grabbed it – more when I held and smashed it," She swallowed thickly, clenching her jaw tightly, "and he's been marked from the very start," She ground out through clenched teeth, "can't you see that? The old git uses us all like pawns as if this all was a bloody chess match!"
