IT HAD ONLY TAKEN TWO days for Artemis to send word back once Rebecca had agreed to meet her, expressing just how excited she was for them to meet officially and that she could come over whenever she wanted. Of course, she had said when her daughter asked if she could bring someone with her, of course you can. Rebecca had only felt slightly worried that she didn't exactly specify just who she was bringing – but she knew once they were there, on the doorstep, she'd feel a lot better about the whole ordeal with Remus Lupin at her side.
But of course, as if he knew something had been brewed and planned behind his back and that didn't include him – Sirius Black had somehow caught wind of the situation and was found guarding the front door when the duo had descended the stairs. Almost immediately, Rebecca stopped in her steps, staring down the man as he folded his arms across his chest. Remus looked no better, nearly reducing to scowling as he took the final steps off the winding staircase.
"Sirius," he began in a warning tone, eyeing the man, "get out of the way."
"No."
"Sirius –"
"I'm not letting you do this without me," Sirius stated firmly, glancing between them both pointedly, "I deserve to know –"
"You deserve nothing –!"
Both men looked rather shocked at the sudden outburst from the Ravenclaw, eyes flickering towards her fidgeting figure still atop the stairs.
"You don't get to just include yourself when you please," Rebecca swallowed down her guilt, staring head-on at her father, "you don't get to choose whether or not I sit-in on Order meetings – or if I want to get to know my own mother – and you especially have no right to steal my letters and lie to my face about it!"
"I did that for your own good –"
"You did it to spare yourself," She jeered in accusation, taking the last few steps and falling into line with Remus, "you couldn't and can't handle me learning more about what's happened – about who I am. You're scared about what I might think about you."
"You're so quick to forgive Artemis, but I get no remorse from you," Sirius spat out incredulously, "I don't get the benefit of the doubt, or any forgiveness for my actions as a stupid kid – but Artemis gets off scratch-free because what?"
"I don't want to do this with you," Rebecca tried stepping around him, only to be blocked again, "move –"
"Just let me go with you," He grunted out, his face taunt but his grey eyes seemed to be pleading, "please."
The dark-haired girl remained silent as she was practically begged in the doorway, trying her best not to cave at the mere sight of glittering grey eyes – flickering her gaze to the side and towards Remus. The man only pursed his lips, looking utterly helpless as he stared back. He didn't know what to do, or what she wanted – but he knew, ultimately, it was still her own choice. Rebecca was grimacing now, trying her best to avoid Sirius' face as she gathered her thoughts as quickly as she could. Still, with a glance to the ticking clock on the wall, she was letting out a disgruntled sigh before nodding once. And within seconds, Sirius was back to smiling brightly and wrenching the front door open.
