ALL IT TOOK WAS ONE SIMPLE look upon his daughter's downhearted face for Sirius Lupin-Black to usher the young woman into the warm household and over to the plush loveseat right by the lit hearth. He didn't speak as he took the squashed seat at her side, nor when he was pulling her frame into his own, his chin set atop her head as she tucked her face down and into his chest. He remained silent as he stroked the hair at the top of her head, his heart beating rapidly in his chest. Though, the thing that was most concerning to him, was that there wasn't a single tear from her eyes. Rebecca was simply tucked away in his tight embrace, frowning and silent, and with glassy eyes, but she was actively refusing to let them begin to fall.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Sirius questioned after a short moment, his voice barely above a whisper as he shifted slightly in his seat to peer downward at the slope of her nose.

She shook her head once, trying to burrow further into his arms with a muffled sigh, "You might feel a little better with telling Dad who to hex," He offered softly, continuing to smooth down her hair, "or I can get Moony for you..?"

"For being a Gryffindor, he's a bloody coward," She all but muttered dishearteningly, bringing a hand up to wipe at her nose before pulling back a fraction of an inch to look up at her father, "I know she's his mum, but...why is so hard for them all to see just how possessive and manipulative she is?" She looked at him in exasperation, her mouth in a deep frown, "I-I mean, she's not exactly sly about it either –"

"Lovely, you've got to understand, she's pinned them all against each other," He began hesitantly, though the anger had began to bubble up within his own veins, "and not just competitively in school achievements –"

"I'm not stupid, I know that," Rebecca gave a meek breath, her lips curling even further downward as she shut her eyes and curled back into him, "but how can they all just let it happen?" She murmured with a grunt, "None of them are dumb enough to not have noticed by now – they could very well overthrow her –"

"This isn't quite like any regular old coup, Pup," Sirius smothered a tiny, fond smile, shaking his head slowly as it began to fade in the next second, "if what you've told us about their brother...uh... Perry –"

"...Percy..." She corrected in a mutter.

"– then you know exactly just how standing up to her turns out for them," He finished simply, tucking back some of her hair with a sympathetic smile, "and, it doesn't exactly make it any easier on Fred that you always seem to be at odds with her."

"So I'm just supposed to stand there and take all her slights?" Rebecca exclaimed incredulously, her eyebrows furrowed, "you'd rather me become yet another person she can belittle?" She was pulling back, staring at him firmly, "No. You and Dad have taught me better than –"
