THERE WAS RUCKUS. Almost all at once, as the dawn rose, the once-silent Lupin residence was suddenly filled with a scatter of people, their voices trailing off hurriedly but just loud enough to carry upstairs. Unbeknownst to herself that she had fallen asleep – due to her exhaustion in waiting for any form of news throughout the long night – Rebecca's eyes were opening as the sound echoed in her ears. Her mouth grew incredibly dry hearing the voices; unable to make out just who was downstairs. Though, before she could even begin to think of scurrying out of the room in defense of their home, there was a small, whimpering cry from the bassinet at her bedside. Wiping her eyes of sleep and pulling herself to sit up on the edge of the mattress, she coo'd quietly down at Teddy.
"Shh," She whispered softly, reaching out to gently tuck a hand under his head and the other to support his little spine as she picked him up from his transfigured bassinet, "it's alright, Little Wolf, everything is going to be okay."
Cuddling her baby brother to her chest with a single arm, Rebecca stood slowly from her place on the mattress and took her wand tightly in her opposite hand. With a great hesitance, hearing the clouded and endless mutterings rising from the floor below, she poked her head outside the crack in the doorway. Teddy still whimpered into her jumper, his eyes clouded and chubby hands flailing into her hair as his own began colouring a deep blue. Taking a small step out of the room, straining her ears, she followed the voices only to completely falter at the very top of the stairs.
"Andy – I-I'm fine – move –" Sirius' exasperated voice sounded over all others, and Rebecca's heart nearly fell out of her chest in utter relief, "where are my kids – Andy, I swear if you don't move I'll –"
Upon hearing their father's familiar voice, Teddy had let out a slight shriek, his hair suddenly rippling a bright yellow. Rebecca remained frozen atop the stairs, her eyes watering and her breath catching in her throat at the sight of the crowd of a few people. She tucked her wand away hastily, carefully stepping down each stair – slow and steady – weary that she was somehow still asleep and dreaming. Immediately, as soon as she stepped off the last stair, both her and Teddy were engulfed into a single embrace. The infant let out a small cry, having been subjected to being momentarily squished before Sirius pulled back to press a firm kiss to each of their foreheads.
"W-Where's –"
Rebecca let out another shaky breath of relief, catching sight of her dad making his way inside from the opened door and immediately over to the reunited trio. He limped slightly, his blazer bloodied and tattered, but he was still smiling reassuringly as he neared. With Teddy taken from her arms, Remus happily tugged Rebecca into his own as Sirius coddled their son. She breathed in his familiar scent deeply, letting it fill her senses and used it to calm herself down, screwing her eyes shut as she squeezed the tall man tightly – his warm, calloused hand gently rubbing a few small circles into the side swell of the baby bump before he pulled back and pecked the top of her head.
