WHEN FRED WEASLEY JUST happened to spontaneously show up on the doorstep of the Lupin household, looking peaky and fidgeting anxiously with his fingers, it was safe to say that Lyall Lupin immediately feared the worst. The older wizard had instantly felt off-put at the sheer gleam of panic on Fred's face, though he still ushered the younger man into the house and towards the sitting room. Not even as he made it a few steps into the room, Sirius Black was already happily bounding towards the front room – intent on seeing his daughter who he assumed tagged along like she usually did. Only, she wasn't in the vicinity. Just like Lyall, he faltered and his face twisted in both confusion and fear at the sight of the singular lanky figure before him.

Fred was extremely close to passing out, he felt it deep within himself – the overbearing jitter of growing nerves just eating away at his insides as he locked eyes with Sirius Black from across the room. Almost immediately, at the sight of the older man, he could've sworn he grew three shades paler than he already was.

"Not that this isn't a nice surprise," Sirius began slowly, clearing his throat awkwardly as he gave Fred another short glance before diverting his gaze, "but, I'm just...kinda wondering...did you – um – did you happen to notice that you're kinda missing a wad of gum at your side?"

"I came alone..." Fred answered stiffly, quite literally quaking in his boots as he tugged awkwardly at the front of his button-down shirt.

"Yes, I do have eyes," The man retorted with a slight snort, an amused smile quirking up one corner of his mouth, "but, really, the question is...why?"

"Is Remus also home?"

Sirius faltered slightly, one of his eyebrows quirking up before he nodded slowly, "yeah, any particular reason you've come to see Moony?"

"I came to see you both really..." Fred swallowed thickly, flashing a meek, hesitant smile before rubbing at the back of his neck, "if that's alright..."

"For Godric's sake, Sirius," Lyall finally cut in after watching the painfully oblivious man flounder for a moment, giving his son-in-law an eyeroll, "go get Remus so the poor lad can get to explaining himself."

"No need to come get me," Remus spoke up as he descended the staircase at the far corner of the room, "what's all the hubba-baloo about?"

Sirius snorted into his palm in a childish manner, stiffing a grin as he mouthed the dumb word to himself with a headshake. With yet another eyeroll, Lyall shook his head before nodding towards Fred – who, at the appearance of the taller man, had stood pin-straight and swallowed harshly. Remus gave the ginger a quiet greeting, an accompanying smile before glancing towards his father who gave another nod and turned on his heel to escape the room. With a show of hand, Fred led both men further into the den, his breathing hindering in his throat as he gathered as much courage as the ghost of Godric Gryffindor allowed him. The three wizards sat on the squashy couch and armchair across from one another, Remus' arm laid across the back of the sofa behind Sirius who still looked lost.
