Beside The Dying Fire

Shaylee's POV

"I'm going after them." I say as I stand up from my seat next to Beth as I continue to worry after hearing a shot

"I'll go with you." T-Dog says

"Don't. They could be anywhere. And if Randall comes back, we're gonna need you both here." Lori says before I hear the front door open from behind me

I turn around and my eyes fall on Glenn and Daryl

"Rick and Shane ain't back?" Daryl asks as I engulf Glenn in a hug

"No." Lori says softly as I release Glenn

"We heard a shot." Daryl says

"Maybe they found Randall." I suggest

"We found him." Daryl says

"Is he back in the shed?" Patricia asks

"He's a walker." Daryl says

"Did you find the walker that bit him?" Hershel asks

"No, the weird thing is he wasn't bit." Glenn says

"His neck was broke." Daryl adds

"So he fought back." Patricia says

"Thing is Shane and Randall's tracks were right on top of each other. And Shane ain't no tracker, so he didn't come up behind him. They were together." Daryl explains

"Would you please get back out there, find Rick and Shane and find out what on earth is going on?" Lori asks as she steps closer to Daryl

"You got it." Daryl says with a reassuring smile as he heads towards the door with Andrea, Glenn, and myself following behind him

I look out onto the property and see hundreds of walkers headed our way before Andrea hurries inside and quickly returns with the others

"Patricia, kill the lights." Hershel whispers

"I'll get the guns." Andrea says

"Maybe they're just passing, like the herd on the highway. Should we just go inside?" Glenn asks

"Not unless there's a tunnel downstairs I don't know about. A herd that size'll rip the house down." Daryl says

"Carl's gone." Lori says as she comes out of the house

"What?" Daryl and I ask simultaneously

"He-- he was upstairs. I can't find him anymore." Lori says

"Maybe he's hiding." Glenn suggests

"He's supposed to be upstairs. I'm not leaving without my boy." Lori says

"We're not. We're gonna-- we're gonna look again. We're gonna find him." Carol says before pulling Lori back into the house and Andrea comes out with the guns

Maggie hands Glenn and I both shotguns

"Maggie." Glenn says in a shocked tone

"You grow up country, you pick up a thing or two." Maggie says

"I got the number-- it's no use." Daryl says

"You can go if you want." Hershel says as I cock my shotgun

"You gonna take 'em all on?" Daryl asks

"We have guns. We have cars." Hershel says before cocking his shotgun

"Kill as many as we can, and we'll use the cars to lead the rest of them off the farm." Andrea says

"You serious?" Daryl asks
