Gabriella - 23Hoseok watched as Gabriella pulled out various foods and cookware in preparation for her grandparents to arrive for dinner. "So, Italian meals usually have a lot of courses, right?"
"Ten, to be exact." Gabriella said nonchalantly, and Hoseok internally began to panic about all the food he would be expected to eat that night. "But don't worry, my grandma and I are only going to make four courses, so you're good." Hoseok nodded as Gabriella turned to face him. Seeing the obvious nerves still displayed on his face, she walked up to him and placed her hands on either side of his face to make him look at her. "Hey, calm down. They will love you." Hoseok took a deep breath and nodded again, so Gabriella smiled and leaned in for a small kiss as someone knocked on their door. "They're here!" She ran over to the front door, Hoseok slowly trailing after her, and threw it open, immediately greeting her grandparents. "Nonna! Nonno!"
Hoseok stood to the side awkwardly as the three Italians began to speak in their native language. Eventually Gabriella realized that they were leaving him out, so she stepped back from her grandparents and motioned for him to come closer. "This is Hoseok, my boyfriend!" Hoseok felt slightly calmed as Gabriella's hand found its place in his.
Her grandmother spoke first with a very thick accent. "It is very nice to meet you~" She greeted, shaking his hand, Gabriella's grandfather repeating the action.
"It's very nice to meet you, too." Hoseok said, thankful that his voice didn't shake with nerves as he spoke.
Gabriella had told Hoseok prior to the dinner that there was no need for him to help, as usually he and Gabriella would cook dinner together, since her grandmother was very picky about who assisted in the cooking. So, while Gabriella and her grandmother got busy in their kitchen, Hoseok sat at the table, that had only been cleared off in preparation for that night as they normally never used it, with her grandfather. They held a conversation for a few minutes before it died down, both from the slight communication barrier, as Gabriella's grandfather was not very skilled in English the way his wife was, and because her grandfather was just a quiet man in general. Thankfully to Hoseok, they didn't sit in silence for long before Gabriella came over with a platter of salami, cheese, bread, and some olives. "Here, you can snack on this until Nonna's done with the first course." After setting the dish on the table, Gabriella kissed both her grandfather and Hoseok on the cheek, Hoseok blushed bright red as she did that because he was not one for PDA, even in front of his own family, before rejoining her grandmother in the kitchen.
When they brought out the first course, it was revealed to be a simple pasta dish. Over the first course was when the interrogation, in Hoseok's eyes, began. "So, Hoseok, what do you do?" A part of Hoseok liked the way Gabriella's grandmother pronounced his name (overly enunciated as if she were trying especially hard to get it right, but still slightly off), which made him even more nervous about impressing them, because he wanted to be in Gabriella's life long enough to hear that pronunciation many more times.
"I fix computers~" Hoseok answered, going into a little bit of detail as Gabriella translated the parts that her grandparents couldn't understand.
They also asked about his family. Gabriella had informed him ahead of time that while her grandparents were not fully against homosexual relationships, they were also not 100% open to them, so for the time being he only referred to Namjoon and Jin as his parents rather than his dads, not wanting to accidentally spark anything during his first meeting with the elderly couple.
When there was only about a fourth of his pasta left, Hoseok started to feel full, so he chose to stop enjoying the pasta in order to have room for the rest of the meal. "Do you not like it?" Hoseok froze in fear at Gabriella's grandmother's question.
He was quick to deny her doubts. "No, no, no, it's delicious, really! I just want to be able to enjoy the rest of the meal." The woman nodded at that but did not seem fully convinced. Hoseok immediately felt bad, worried that he had messed up with his choice, and it seemed as if Gabriella sensed that because she reached over and pat his hand to comfort him.
After that, they had eggplant parmigiana, which Hoseok was very excited about as he absolutely loved his girlfriend's eggplant parmigiana, and some cake before moving to the living room. Hoseok immediately offered them coffee, which they seemed very pleased about. He used the french press that Gabriella insisted on having for 'the best quality' and carried the two cups out two the elderly couple. As he came back, he heard them speaking in Sicilian, as he found out earlier in the night that they spoke Sicilian rather than the standard Italian. "Iddu esti affabuli e beddu. Tu facivi bedda picciriddu cu." Whatever Gabriella's grandmother said made the 23-year-old blush as Hoseok stepped into the room with the drinks. Gabriella's grandparents smiled and thanked Hoseok before including him in the conversation to, making a point to try extremely hard to speak English while Hoseok, with Gabriella's help, attempted to speak at least a few phrases of Sicilian.
After her grandparents left, with another assurance that it was nice to meet Hoseok and they hoped to see him again before they left to go back to Sicily, when Hoseok and Gabriella were getting ready for bed, Hoseok decided to ask what they had been talking about. "So, what did your grandmother say that had you so flustered?"
Gabriella immediately blushed again. "Oh, uh, nothing. She didn't say anything important." Hoseok refused to accept that, so he kept pushing for her to tell him while she kept refusing. Eventually, they playful argument led to a tickle fight with Hoseok pinning Gabriella to the bed as his fingers danced along her sides ruthlessly. "Alright! I'll tell you! Have mercy!" Hoseok laughed as he finally stopped tickling her, moving to rest his hands on either side of her head so he was fully hovering over her. "She told me that you were very nice and handsome." Gabriella answered, looping her arms around her neck.
"Well, obviously I am~" Gabriella giggled at that. "But what else did she say."
Gabriella's cheeks reddened even more as she responded quietly. "She said we'd make beautiful children together one day."
Hoseok's initial reaction was to be shocked, but his facial feature quickly morphed into a soft smile as he leaned down to press a light kiss to Gabriella's lips. "Hopefully that day will come soon." Gabriella tilted her head slightly, a small smile quirking the corners of her lips. "I don't have a ring yet, so I can't actually propose right now..." A couple of tears started to bead in the corners of Gabriella's eyes at Hoseok's statement. "But I fully intend to marry you."
One of Gabriella's hands began to play with the ends of Hoseok's hair as she found the words to respond to him. "Well good, because I wouldn't let you go off and marry anyone else." Hoseok smiled at her before leaning down to meet her lips in a passionate kiss.
The spent a few minutes kissing before Hoseok pulled away, rubbing Gabriella's cheek with his thumb. "As much as I would love to show you how much I love you, we do have to meet my family tomorrow morning for Chloe's birthday breakfast, so..." Gabriella giggled and gave him one more kiss before letting him get up, so they could go to bed.
