Presley - 2Jungkook sighed quietly as he picked at his burger, not really in the mood to eat. He was at Marketplace Grill with his family for their weekly Sunday lunch that they continued to have even though not all of them continued to go to church regularly and even though Jin's mother had passed away nearly three years earlier. Sammie was chattering excitedly about her best friend's birthday sleepover that would be happening that night, Presley was screaming about how her chicken and green beans were touching while Yoongi quickly tried to fix the issue to calm the two year old down, and Kortni was talking about her wedding plans with Gabriella, but all Jungkook could do was stare sadly at his plate and think about what excuse he was going to tell Jayden when he got home.
While Jungkook was aware that most of the people at church strongly disliked him because of his sexuality, and had actually been told by a couple of them that he would burn in Hell if he didn't 'repent', he enjoyed going to church with his dad. It was easy to tell that he was the most spiritual of his brothers, and he enjoyed the extra time spent with his dad on Sundays. Jayden did not feel the same way. The 26 year old was completely against all aspects of religion, which was why Jungkook had snuck out of the apartment when he was still asleep so he could go with his dads that morning. He used to not care about Jungkook going to church most weeks, but after what happened on the cruise nearly a year earlier, although he kept true to his promise of never laying a hand on him again, he had definitely become more controlling in the relationship. He told Jungkook he was just being more protective of him, wanting to make sure he never doubted his love for him, but the 24 year old was not completely sure that was the reason why. Nevertheless, he ignored the change in Jayden's behavior because at least he'd kept his promise.
Jungkook was brought back to reality when Jin nudged him. "I'm sorry, what?"
Jin chuckled quietly, the confused look on Jungkook's face reminding him of when he was just a child. "I asked why Jayden didn't meet us for lunch. We haven't seen him in a while."
Jungkook picked up a french fry and swirled it around in his ketchup, using that as a way to avoid eye contact with his dad. "Yeah, uh, he had a shift today, so he couldn't make it." Honestly, Jungkook had no idea if Jayden was at work at that moment or not, but it was the easiest way to answer his dad's question without prompting more questions.
