Takes place after "Street Rat".
.
"Prince Khalid
Yes, it is he
Khalid of Almyra..."
.
You met up with Khalid at the same time and place as you had agreed. He was there waiting for you, propped up against a wall. His face lit up when he saw you.
"Well if it isn't the lady of the hour!"
You felt your face flush and you subconsciously grabbed at the worn and dusty rags you called clothes.
But Khalid suddenly grabbed ahold of your wrist, pulling your hand away and drawing your attention back to him. He had a mischievous smile and a wink on his face as he said, "I'm just messing with you."
You're face got hotter as your embarrassment was replaced by annoyance, "Well don't!"
He chuckled and raised his arms up in surrender, "Woah, woah, I wouldn't want to get on your bad side."
He was so different from all the people you'd met before. He seemed so relaxed. As if he was just floating through life. That made you kind of envious, but it also made you want to be around him.
You smiled and tried to relax as well, "Yeah, you should be scared of me! Did you see how I punched that guy? I'm intimidating!"
He only laughed louder, "Yeah, sure, shorty."
You pouted childishly in offense, "Hey, I'm taller than you."
"Yeah." he walked forward until he was right in front of you, "but I'm a guy," raising an arm above his head, he finished his argument, "I'll be taller than you in the end."
"Says who?"
"My mom." he answered proudly, at if this affirmation won the argument beyond a shadow of a doubt.
"Wow, so cool." You rolled your eyes.
He halfheartedly pushed your shoulder as you laughed at your own sarcastic comment.
"Very funny. Now come on." Khalid said as he snatched up your hands and began leading you away from the where you both stood.
It seemed as though he was planning on exiting the city. Was it really okay to go along with it? Cyril would be fine even if you weren't so nearby, right?
You were so wrapped up in your worries that you nearly failed to notice where you were headed.
"Wait!"
Khalid looked over his shoulder at you, "Huh?"
You had planted your feet firmly on the ground and Khalid had stopped walking to see what was up. You pulled at the hand he still held and tried to insist of going back, "We can't go in there."
He had a goofy look of confusion on his face as a response, "It's the outdoors."
You shook your head, "It not safe on those lands."
You could practically see the gears turning in Khalid's head as he looked out upon the sands. It was quite a ways away, but it was still viewable from your little village. The walled up entrance to the closest community to the palace. From what little you could see of the buildings over the walls, it was easy to tell the great condition they were in.
