Takes place after "Broken".

As Dimitri walked through the hallway, he was more afraid than he had ever been in the last five years.

But he wouldn't turn back.

When he finally reached his destination, Felix was sat infront of the closed door.

Dimitri braced himself for yelling and hatred, but it never came. Felix stood up wordlessly and turned his back to him, allowing him access to the door.

He entered the room quickly before he lost his nerve.

There you were. Sitting on the floor, your back to the door, your head resting on the bed.

You barely moved. It reminded Dimitri of a painting depicting a tragedy.

He felt his heart break.

.

You knew Dimitri was there. You didn't care. You felt just as you did before he arrived.

Empty.

You missed your father.

You wanted to see him again.

Dimitri moved closer and knelt down behind you.

"Y/N." his voice was full of emotion.

You were still unmoved.

"I am so, so sorry. For my actions. For how I treated you... For Rodrigue." he took a shaky breath, "Had I not lost myself the way I did, he wouldn't have... I'm sorry..."

You didn't look at him, and you still felt empty, but you reached back to take his hand in yours.

You didn't blame him. He needed to know that.

You sat there unmoving in complete silence for hours.

You eventually fell asleep.

On the floor. Holding hands. Heads rested on the bed.

.

The following weeks Dimitri and Felix worked together in an unspoken agreement that you needed to be taken care of.

They made sure you ate and got sleep. Sometimes they even got you to leave your room.

But you still didn't speak.

Today was no different.

Dimitri had taken your hand and guided you out of your room and towards the greenhouse.

You realized he must have really been desperate to make you happy since he was usually the one keeping you away from the greenhouse not bringing you to it.

You sat infront of a tiny blue flower bud.

Your occasional sneezes the only interruption to the silence.

Dimitri stood uncomfortably besides you.

From the way he shifted you could tell it was taking all his self-control to not pick you up and take you as far away from the pollen as possible.

You smiled. A very small smile, but still.

Goodness, the intimidating, inhumanly strong, future king of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, brought to his knees by a simple bud.

You bit you lip trying not to laugh but a few giggles escaped. Soon you couldn't hold bad your amusement any longer and you let out a hearty laugh.

Dimitri stood stunned for a moment his eyes wide; mouth ajar.

Once out of his stupor he knelt down besides you and asked astounded, "Did... Did you just laugh?"

Your face fell again.

Had you just laughed?

You definitely still felt empty, but there was unmistakably something there, however small it may have been.

Tears began to flow out of your eyes uninvited. You wanted them to stop.

Why wouldn't they stop!

You tried desperately and unsuccessfully to wipe away all the tears, until two large, strong hands took your shaking ones and lowered them slowly.

Looking you in the eyes Dimitri spoke firmly, "It is alright to cry. Holding back your feelings will only harm yourself and they wouldn't want that."

A sob escaped your lips and you looked at Dimitri. His visible eye shone with worry. His hair was clean and smooth and tied back messily. He had tied it back after Felix had stated that he looked like a "soaked cat" with the way it was before.

Another sob. And another one after that.

It wasn't long until you were left a crying mess in Dimitri's arms.

He rubbed your back and simply stated one thing, "Cry as much as you need to. I am here and I am not going anywhere."
