I would like to start by saying I'm sorry.
.
How did this happen?
Things seemed to be going so well. But now...
It was one crazy event after another. Remire, Jeralt, and now her.
You didn't know if it was true that the Flame Emperor was involved in the Tragedy of Duscur, but Dimitri was convinced of it.
And now that they had been unmasked, and Dimitri had been met with her unflinching, determined gaze, there was no going back.
Neither you nor Byleth had been able to reach him in that moment.
Now you stood with your classmates, discussing the events that had just occurred and preparing for the upcoming battle. Dimitri was elsewhere and Dedue was surely with him.
You knew you should give him space at least for now, but you had to do something, and standing here hearing your brother's "I told you so." spiel wasn't it.
So against your better judgement you went towards the training grounds. He'd managed to regain his senses once before, surely he could again. Right...?
Dedue stood in front of the door. You weren't sure who he was trying to protect at that moment.
But the look in your eyes made him move aside with merely a moment's hesitation.
You stepped inside the Training Grounds, closing the door behind you. You weren't sure what to call this foolishness that pushed you forward.
He had noticed your presence, you were sure. But as he swung his lance with a near animalistic fury, he gave no sign of having realized you were there.
"Dimitri." You called out firmly. Not a hint of weakness in your voice.
He still didn't react.
Speaking would be useless.
So you picked up a lance and parried his blow.
In retrospect, it probably wasn't the smartest decision, but you weren't really worried about that at the moment.
Your weapons pushed against each other as you glared into each other's eyes. Neither of you backing down.
Dimitri stepped back with with an annoyed huff.
"Get out." he said simply.
"No."
Silence. The atmosphere was tense.
You were the first to speak, "Talk to me, Dimitri."
"And what am I to say?" he asked roughly.
You scoffed incredulously, "Maybe start by explained your attitude. We are not to blame for the actions of another. We should not have to deal with your misplaced anger."
"You expect me to go along acting like nothing is wrong, is that it?"
That caught you off guard, "No, I just--"
"You knew long ago what I was capable of."
"Just because you are capable of something doesn't mean you have to act on it!" you stood merely inches from the prince. From here you could see the dried blood in his hair.
"You have seen my true face before." he said glaring down at you. His height would have been intimidating for most, but not for you.
"Is this truly who you are, Dimitri?" your voice softened slightly, despite your reluctance to show any weakness.
"You would know better than most." His voice was still rough and filled with anger, but it was barely above a whisper.
"Better than even you, apparently."
With that you left. You were angry at him and angry at yourself.
You walked back to the classroom were the rest of the Blue Lions currently where.
You entered without a word, grabbed Felix by the wrist and dragged him out. When you were away from prying eyes, you stopped.
You looked at each other. His scowl surely mirrored your own.
"What is it?" he asked with his usual bluntness. Yet, you heard a hint of worry in his voice.
You stood there for a moment and looked towards the ground.
You took a step forward and hugged him.
Felix was taken aback, but, after a short hesitation, he hugged back.
It wasn't common for a Fraldarius to cry. So as to be expected, you shed no tears.
Regardless, your pain was bared as clearly with dry eyes as it would have been with falling tears.
