Sylvain was getting on your last nerves. Any awkwardness between the two of you had been completely forgotten by him.

He had made that very clear.

For example, yesterday.

You sat in class next waiting for Ashe to get there so you could talk to someone who wasn't Sylvain.

You needed a break from the redhead.

Unfortunately, when Ashe did walk in he sat somewhere else. You looked at him with questioning eyes. He, with a guilty frown, mouthed one word: sorry.

At that moment you felt someone sit down beside you. When you turned to look you rolled your eyes.

"Sylvain, Ashe is supposed to sit here."

"What?" he asked innocently, "You can't blame me for wanting to sit next to my favorite girl."

It was kinda hard to pay attention to class with someone staring at you the entire time.

And there was also that time two days ago.

You were eating dinner. Being about as classy as as your sister. When an arm was draped over your shoulders.

You sighed.

"Sylvain, do you mind?"

"No, I'm alright. You carry on."

Suffice it to say, you were tired of this.

So when you went to the Training Grounds to calm down, you didn't expect to end up trapped against a wall.

There stood Sylvain with his stupid mischievous smile, hands flat against the wall at either side of your head.

"Sylvain. I am going to give you three seconds to move." You sounded like your sister when she got mad.

Sylvain's smile didn't falter. He brought his face closer to yours smiling innocently, "Come on, just hear me out."

You closed your eyes and took a breath, "I can hear you without you invading my personal space."

"Aw, but that's no fun! Ow! Hey, hey! Okay, I get it! I'll stop."

As easily as you had pinned Sylvain's arm behind his back, you dropped it.

"What is with you recently!"

"Nothing is with me! I'm just acting friendly."

"Just tell me what you want, Sylvain!"

"Stop yelling."

"Don't tell me what to do!"

Sylvain took a breath and tried again, "Hear me out."

You crossed your arms and waited.

"Remember that time we fought."

"You'll have to be more specific."

He rolled his eyes, "Let me finish. One time we fought you told me you'd never want to be Lady Gautier. And I've been thinking about that recently."

"I said that when you were being a jerk. The arrangement between our families remains." Why was he bringing this up?

"I'm not talking about if we're going to get married, but if you want to get married."

You paused for a second. "What? That doesn't matter."

"It matters to me." he sighed, "I don't want to force you into something you don't want."

"Sylvain, it's not like we have a choice."

"I... I don't want us to be married just for convenience."

Was he trying to break off the engagement? Was he crazy?

Your family needed this.

"My family comes first to me. Any other details of the marriage are irrelevant to me."

Sylvain looked frustrated. Like he couldn't get his message across correctly.

"Don't take this the wrong way, but is that really the only thing that matters to you? Is there no other reason for agreeing to marry me?"

You quirked an eyebrow, "What other reason would there be?"

Sylvain sighed and looked around, distraught. He closed his eyes and when he opened them again you noticed a glimmer of determination.

He walked towards you and said with a low voice, "It's easier if I just show you."

He closed the distance between the two of you, gently put his hands on your cheeks and kissed you.

The entire time you were too shocked to move. You tried processing what was happening with little success and your face felt like it was on fire.

Thankfully, for your sanity's sake, the kiss only lasted for a few seconds.

Sylvain moved back and looked at you with worry he tried to mask, "That's the reason... Is that okay?"

Was that okay?

You didn't know.

Romance had always been the furthest thing from your mind. You didn't care about marriage and you weren't looking for love.

Sylvain was your friend. He'd been your best friend growing up. But this did remind you of something.

Glenn stood in front of you. You were around ten at the time. He had a serious look.

"You have a crush on Sylvain."

As blunt as ever. It wasn't a question. It was as if he was stating a fact.

You scrunched up you nose in reply, "No way!"

"Well he has a crush on you. If he tries anything let me know."

"He tries something with everyone... Wait, did Ingrid put you up to this?"

He sheepishly rubbed the back of his head.

You rolled your eyes, "You're not married yet you know."

The memory of your old friend didn't help ease your nerves in the slightest.

You looked at Sylvain and panicked.

"Can I, uh, have a moment?"

Sylvain looked dejected, "Oh, yeah sure..."

You awkwardly walked out of the Training Grounds. You needed your sister...

.

Happy birthday, Sylvain!
