Convincing your parents to let you go was not easy. Especially since you refused to hide your identity. And of course your brother was completely against this idea, which made it even harder.
"We're nearly at the border, kiddo. You sure you're up for this?"
"Not you too, Nader! Of course I'm ready for this. Besides if I do need to fight I'll be fine. I did learn from the best."
Nader gave a hearty chuckle, "I won't argue with that."
You walked a while longer until you made it to Fódlan's throat. Suddenly you felt a bit nervous. But you refused to back down. It was probably your Almyran blood that made to enjoy the challenge this presented.
You could see a man, who you presumed to be General Holst, waiting in the distance. Nader patted your back firmly, "You'll do great! Show them what true Almyran strength means."
You laughed, Nader was always fun to be around, "I'll make sure to let them know who trained me." You smiled back at him. And with that you stepped forward alone, with only the bag that held your belongings.
"Princess Y/N." greeted General Holst cordially.
"General Holst." you nodded.
"Welcome to Fódlan." He seemed less threatening than you had imagined. You could probably take him.
"Thank you." You answered shortly.
"I hope you won't mind, but Lord Riegan's grandson won't arrive until tomorrow, so you'll have to stay the night at House Goneril."
Typical. He probably did this on purpose.
"I don't mind."
You walked the rest of the way in silence. It was extremely awkward for both of you.
When you arrived he introduced you to his sister and excused himself to go take care of matters elsewhere.
"Wow, so your the Almyran Princess."
Something about how she said that made you uneasy.
"Yes, I am."
"I imagined you'd be... I don't know. More buff and scary. But you're super petite and cute."
Should you be offended or...?
"Thanks?"
"I always thought Almyrans were all fight and conquer, and all that. But you seem so we'll mannered."
Was she for real? You decided to stay quiet.
You reached the room where you would be staying and Hilda spoke again. "Well, this is your room. If you need anything let me know." And she was off.
Phew. She would definitely give you a headache.
But you wanted to see how the people of Fódlan would treat an Almyran, so you needed to be strong. Your brother might have to be here under the guise that he's simply a Fódlan noble, but you weren't about to hide your heritage if you could help it.
You went to sleep soon after Hilda left. Today had been a long day.
The next morning you woke up and went to the entrance hall. But before you reached it you heard voices.
"Well, from what I heard she's incredibly annoying."
That was a voice you hadn't heard in months.
And you were about to hit its owner.
"Good morning." You said as you walked into view. You were greeted by two smiles. One of them very familiar.
"It's great to finally meet you, Princess." greeted the green-eyed boy.
"Likewise. 'Claude', was it?" You asked with a knowing look in your eyes.
He nodded and turned to your current host. "Sorry to cut this visit short, but we've got a long journey ahead of us."
You said goodbye to Hilda and left alongside Claude.
"Don't you think that was laying it on a bit thick? 'Claude, was it?'" he imitated you.
"Well at least I wasn't talking behind your back, you jerk!"
Claude smiled and ruffled your hair, "It's nice to see you, sis."
You pushed him away from you and answered, "Yeah, I guess it's nice to see you too."
"You guess?! Geez, love you too." he joked. "Explode anything on your way here?"
"I told you I wasn't going to do that here." You crossed your arms.
"Yeah, sure. I give you a few months tops before something goes, 'boom!'"
"What about you? Did you stop poisoning people?"
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves."
"You are such a dork." You said, albeit with a smile.
You spent the rest of the way towards House Riegan catching up with Claude.
He explained to you about crests and he mentioned how he thought you probably had one too. You both knew you had to keep that a secret.
It was going to be hard not letting anyone know you were related. However, while you were at House Riegan, and it was just you guys and your grandfather, there was no need to hide anything.
"So how is our grandfather?" you had never met him, so you were curious what he was like.
"Unbearably healthy."
"Claude!"
"I'm just joking. He's not as bad as mom made him sound."
"So he was just okay that mom ran away to marry the king of Almyra?"
"Okay, so he's not perfect." Claude added. "But he's not a tyrannical monster or anything."
You kept walking and knew it would be at least a day before you made it to house Riegan. You began to wonder if your brother was crazy for not taking at least one horse and deciding to make the trek on foot.
You weren't used to walking this much. Sure you were in good shape since you trained nearly every day, but you never went too far away from your home.
"Claude... Carry meee." you said.
"What? No!" Why couldn't your brother dote on you this once?
"Please?"
Silence.
"But Claude..."
"Just walk."
"You're the one who didn't bring any transportation." you stated.
"Well I didn't realize I was related to a sloth." he mocked.
"You are so mean!"
"No mom to run crying to." He said before running away.
"Get back here!" you yelled as you ran after him.
When you both got tired of running you went back to walking. You talked and teased each other. It was a long, but fun time.
It was definitely a long time. Since thanks to Claude's decision to go on foot it was nearly sunrise by the time you got to House Riegan.
