Takes place after "If I lost you".
.
Things had been awkward to say the least.
Sylvain and you might have actually been more comfortable around each other when you didn't get along.
Just now you were in town running errands for the professor and you couldn't even hold a conversation.
"So..." you attempted looking around at the stalls and small shops for something interesting.
"Yeah?" Sylvain asked. You didn't reply. You didn't know how. And asking about the weather for the nth time wasn't going to work.
goddess, just end my suffering.
And your prayers were answered. Or so it appeared at first. But a few seconds in, you realized that this was not the one to end your suffering.
"Sylvain!" a female voice called out, it belonged to the village girl making her way towards you. Well towards Sylvain, that is. You might as well not have been there at all.
Sylvain lazily put his arms behind his head and whispered under his breath, "oh no."
You knew where this was going.
"You haven't come to see me in a week." the girl stated shortly, not wasting time. Her short hair framed her face perfectly and her make-up complimented her beautifully. You could see why Sylvain would be interested in her.
"I thought we agreed to see other people?" Sylvain asked sheepishly. The girl crossed her arms and threw a fleeting glance your way. You could guess what she was thinking and it made your stomach turn.
"No. You said you'd come back to see me in a day." this girl was not amused. Neither were you.
"Oh, yeah! I told that to the other one. I mean, I'm ever so sorry. I guess I was just so stunned by your beauty I couldn't think straight. But if you'll let me, you could join me now and I'll make it up to you, milady." you saw right through Sylvain's act and it disgusted you. He was truly such a pig sometimes. No, that was a horrible insult to pigs.
"What about her?" she answered looking slightly uncomfortable. But whatever inhibitions she had were held back by a weird emotion you could see in her eyes, but couldn't recognize.
You rolled your eyes, "I was just leaving." You turned sarcastically to Sylvain with a smile, "Have fun!"
You turned around and started on your way back to the monastery. You thought you heard your name be called, but your anger blocked out everything except indistinct chatter and the roaring wind.
.
Back at the monastery you swung your lance with great force. You had the Training Grounds all to yourself and you were glad. You didn't want anyone around you.
You spun swiftly and executed a strike that left your weapon inches away from someone's neck. Your heart skipped a beat as you realized what you had almost done.
"Geez, you almost took my head off." said Sylvain, stepping a but back and rubbing his neck.
You stood unflinchingly, "Good." Although, if you were honest with yourself, you were incredibly shaken up. You had to remember to be more aware of your surroundings.
"Ok, maybe I deserved that." he answered looking to the side.
"You think?" you asked angrily, as you put your lance down to lean on it.
"Look, I'm sorry. That was rude of me. I was with you and I shouldn't have asked another girl on a date."
You scoffed incredulously, "That's what you think this is about?"
