This takes place after "Goodnight, Princess".

.

The peaceful nights of camaraderie and feasts were a long forgotten memory.

War had broken out. Your brother was gone. You had left your position at the defense of the Gloucester territory.

Ok, so that last one wasn't a bad thing.

For the past two years you've been staying in the Riegan territory "helping" the new leader of the Leicester Alliance.

You couldn't thank Claude enough for getting you away from Lorenz.

But it wasn't like you weren't doing anything.

Just now you were studying the wars of the past for any answers on how to end this horror quicker. It had been nearly five years since the war started; nearly five years since your world fell apart.

But you couldn't let yourself focus on that, so instead you focused on studying.

Or at least focused on using the book as a pillow.

You were exhausted. Everything was exhausting these days.

You would have probably slept for days on end had it not been for the determined tugging of your hair.

You groggily opened your eyes, but didn't move. "What are you doing, Claude?"

"Braiding your hair." the man said simply.

"Well stop it. I'm trying to sleep." you said, too tired to even question why he was braiding your hair.

"Can't. It's a complete mess."

At that you sat up and turned to glare at him. "I'm sorry for having my priorities straight." you said sarcastically.

Claude just smirked and leaned down so he could get closer to your face. "You're right. Sleeping is very important." He stood back up and winked, "Besides, while you were whining I already finished."

"Great. Now if you'll excuse me..." you said as you got comfortable again.

"That won't do." Claude stated as he picked you up and carried you over his shoulder.

"Claude! Put me down!"

"How long has it been since you've actually slept in a real bed?" he said, completely ignoring you.

"I don't need a bed. I just need you to let go!"

"You sure about that?" he said, momentarily letting his hold on you go loose which caused you to almost fall.

"Not like that!" you said as he laughed. "This isn't funny, Claude! You could at least carry me in a more decent manner."

"But this is way more fun."

"That's it!" you said as you tried with all your might to get out of his grasp.

"Hey, wait, you're gonna make us--"

But it was too late and the both of you toppled over onto the floor. You looked at each other from where you laid side by side and started laughing.

Claude caught his breath, propped his head up and looked at you with a smile.

"You should try to smile more. It suits you." he said.

Your gaze fell with a sad smile, "There isn't much to smile about these days."

Claude paused for a moment, "I know. But anyways, you really should get some rest." He stood up and offered you his hand. "We've got somewhere to be tomorrow."

"What? Where?" you asked

"Garreg Mach Monastery. We made a promise, remember?"
