You hid behind the barricaded door of the place you reluctantly accepted as "your room".

You had no plans of opening the door and letting yourself be dragged out into the gaudy crimson halls of the Imperial Palace. You were not keen on the idea of having to, once again, choose between speaking your mind and getting punished or acting like the perfectly happy little hostage they wanted you to be.

"It seems the first two messengers sent to retrieve you lost their nerve. That will not be the case with me. Lady Edelgard requests your presence; do not keep her waiting."

"I already was very clear. I will not be attending dinner. Your Fodlán food is as atrocious as the bloodied hands that prepare it." Your words dripped with venom. You were still not comfortable speaking the language of Fodlán, so it was probably apparent that some of that little speech you had just given was a tad bit rehearsed.

The dark voice outside your door chuckled maliciously, "You misunderstand, I will not be taking 'no' as an answer. Come along willingly or I will drag you to the dining room myself if need be."

"I would rather die." you spat, rather truthfully.

"That can be arranged."

You hesitated. Surely he was joking. Still his nonchalantly evil tone sent shivers down your spine.

"Who will be there?" you asked, still trying to sound confident.

"Only Lady Edelgard, and myself, of course." the voice answered.

Then that meant the person outside your door was Edelgard's vassal, Hubert.

You despised everyone and everything here, but Hubert was someone you despised more than you did others.

He seemed insistent on you acting grateful for being "allowed" the "privilege" of staying there. He seemed to believe you should be happy to be a "guest" at the Imperial Palace.

But as much as you disliked him, your fear of what he could be capable of was somehow greater.

You slowly, dejectedly, opened the door. Immediately you were met with a sinisterly victorious smirk.

Hubert, acting polite, offered you his arm, which you scoffed at. You pushed past him and kept walking, only to quickly realize you did not know where the dining room was.

The dark-haired boy walked past you and tried again to get you to follow, though this time he kept more distance between the two of you. You sighed and did as he wanted, reluctantly. Once arriving at your destination he pulled out a chair for you near where the Imperial princess sat, which you clumsily sat in, feeling incredibly awkward.

You stared at the table hoping, as you had done many times before, that this was all just a nightmare. Just an elaborate concoction of your mind that would dissipate as soon as you woke up. Safe and sound. Back home. In Dagda.

But no, you were still here. You still refused to look up, however.

"Y/N..." You heard Edelgard's regal tone addressing you.

Yet still you did not answer.

Edelgard sighed and turned to Hubert.

"Give us a moment, Hubert."

"Lady Edelgard, I must insist that I stay here to ensure your safety." You almost chuckled, Hubert actually sounded taken aback.

But Edelgard left no more room for argument, "I can handle myself, Hubert."

"As you wish... I will remain outside, should you have need of me."

Once Hubert exited, Edelgard turned to you. You could tell her gaze was solemn, pitying.

"I do not have need of your pity." you spat.

"Good. Because I do not pity you." she answered bluntly. Her answer surprised you. You definitely didn't expect her to say that.

So you actually looked at her as you spoke again, "Then what is it you want from me?"

Edelgard's expression was stern, somewhat unforgiving and more than a bit intimidating. Her tone of voice and mannerisms matched her expression perfectly.

"The Princess of Brigid has been here for a shorter amount of time than you. She has seized the opportunity to better herself instead of wasting her time in childish self-sabotaging."

You scoffed, "I do not have care for your opinions." As soon as the words left your mouth you realized you probably didn't structure that sentence correctly. But you weren't about to let your limited knowledge of the language stop you from expressing yourself. "I was taken from my home, a home which is not Empire territory unlike Brigid. And why? To ensure our compliance? So there can be no more war?" You stood up slamming your hands onto the table. "What war is there to be if there are no warriors or leaders. My homeland is in ruins! My people suffer for decisions that they did not make themselves... I know too well what that is like.

"I did not start the fighting. But I did pay the price. Tell me, princess, how can there be war when the royal family is gone? When my entire family is dead?!"

You forgot yourself for a moment. And yet you didn't quite care. You did care, however, about the tears you had as of yet refused to shed escaping you. You noticed them falling freely, against your wishes. What you did not notice was the threatening posture that you had unconsciously assumed.

You were only made aware of your current position when two arms roughly wrapped around your waist and pulled you back against a chest as you struggled to break free.

Throwing away whatever pride you had held on to, you cried, "Let go of me! Let go! Let-- hm..."

.

Hubert saw Lady Edelgard approach him worriedly as he felt the girl in his arms fall limp.

"Hubert! What did you do?" the princess asked, failing to completely hide her panic.

Hubert answered monotonously, "I simply put her to sleep. Simple magic. Not harmful in any way."

Lady Edelgard did her best to mask her sigh of relief but Hubert noticed.

"Hubert if you please..."

"I shall take her to her room."

"Thank you."

Hubert carried the sleeping girl in his arms as he traversed through the palace halls. His expression remained stoic as he gazed down at her tear stained face.

This girl, the Princess of Dagda, might be his lady's guest, but he would not hesitate to quell her insubordination should the need arise.

By any means necessary.

Hi!!!!! You lovely people who are reading this maybe. I'm here! Hi! It's been tough times, but I think I finally have a bit more motivation to continue!
I have more ideas (some pretty quirky in my opinion :p) and hopefully I'll be able to put them into words on these digital pages! That is if I can remember all of them...
Yes, yes. I am infact very disorganized.
I might not be able to post as consistently as I used to, but I'll try to keep going at my own pace.
