This continues the story of "Together, right?" and "My Princess".
You had spent the last few weeks using all your free time to sing and dance with Ferdinand. It was the most free you had ever felt.
When you were with him nothing else mattered.
The future your sister had planned.
Your wrenched childhood.
Your constant nightmares.
Even your shortened lifespan.
When you were with Ferdinand you felt as if nothing could touch you.
Of course, that just made the punch of reality all the more hurtful. And reality punched hard whenever Ferdinand wasn't around. Usually you would spend time with El in those moments, but she seemed to be growing incredibly busy. With each passing day you would see less and less of her.
Fortunately for you, you had found a kindred spirit.
Annette, from the Blue Lion House enjoyed making up songs and dances just like you did. As you talked with her and got to know her, you realized she would probably greatly enjoy visiting the Mittelfrank Opera House in the Empire. When you told her about it she got very excited and said that she would like to visit it one day, and that she'd like to take her best friend Mercedes too. You hadn't really met Mercedes, but Annette told you you were a lot like her, and, to be honest, you were looking forward to getting to know her too. You decided on that moment, without really thinking it through, to tell Annette that after you all graduated, Ferdinand, Mercedes, her and you could all got see the Opera together.
And the lie upon my lips I let it go.
But in that moment, it was the truth.
You see, in that moment you had forgotten your fate. It was a force you couldn't run from.
Now you sat in your room. Humming the tune you had recently invented and writing lyrics to go with it. To be honest, it was going slower that you thought it would.
There was a knock on your door, completely shattering the creative aura the you were barely managing to hold together.
"Come in, El." you called out.
As she opened the door, El seemed very confused, "How did you know it was me?"
You smiled warmly at her, "Because I know you."
She smiled back at you, but as quickly as it had appeared, her smile fell.
She sat across from you on the bed and you braced yourself for whatever she was about to say.
She sighed, "Hubert told me you are getting quite comfortable with the other students. And I am not against that, but it will make things more difficult."
"Hubert really needs a hobby." You answered. You had been well aware you were being watched. "But in a way, that makes what I am about to say easier..."
El looked at you with expectant eyes. There was worry swimming deep within them.
"I... El, I don't think this is the right way. I know what you have to do is important and I would never stand in your way, but... There has to be another way."
El's frown deepened, "We talked about this already. There is no other way."
"There is always an alternative to violence."
"What? Did you learn that from your precious goddess?" El, lashed out, catching you off guard.
"And what if I did? Edelgard, I have the right to have my own beliefs. And my belief now is that starting a war is not the answer."
Edelgard stood up, "You had never been opposed before."
You stood up too, meeting her eyes, "That is not true. I just didn't say anything."
"Why not?"
"Because, El, I didn't have anything to lose before. But now I do. And I don't want to lose it." Your sadness was clear on your voice.
El paused for a moment. Your words seemed to shake her resolve.
But not enough, "Then I guess you have to make a choice." With those words, Edelgard left the room.
You sat back down on your bed. Your chest was overflowing with emotion you needed to get out. It was threatening to drown you.
So you wrote.
And in your sadness lyrics were born.
A sad girl's pleas
Live only
For a breath and then they fade.
This one is so short TwT. But I don't think stretching it out would do it much good.
