This takes place after "A sad girl's pleas."

.

You and the rest of the Black Eagles had just agreed to meet up at the monastery in five years time. You didn't quite like your sisters blatant false promises, but you wanted to pretend that the future was bright if even just for a moment.

You sat at a table and watched as the others talked excitedly about the ball tomorrow. You smiled at the scene before you. These smiling faces were a part of your heart now. They were your family. You wanted to remember them like this.

Hold tight to what I love, Keep cruel fate at bay.

"Y/N?"

You looked to the source of the voice and saw Ferdinand sitting next to you. You smiled warmly.

"Hello, Ferdinand. Excited to dance tomorrow?"

"Ah, yes actually. With you, that is. If you'd let me dance with you, I mean." he mumbled out a bit incoherently.

You smiled as he regained himself and tried again; you found it adorable.

"Would you allow me to accompany you to the ball, Princess?" he said, regaining his usual air of nobility. Although he still seemed nervous.

You smiled wider and replied. "I would love that, Ferdinand."

"You would?" he looked a slight a bit unsure, but he smiled, "If that is the case, I am sure we will be the most brilliant pair there. It is only to be expected, of course."

"Good, I can't wait." you said as you grabbed his arm and rested your head on his shoulder turning your gaze back to your classmates.

Ferdinand tensed at your action. But he quickly managed to will himself to relax.

Maybe for now you could at least pretend everything was ok.

.

But that couldn't last for ever.

It was much later now as you walked towards your sister in the rain, not caring if you got sick.

"Edelgard, this is going too far."

She finally turned to look at you. In the dark of the night she looked almost ghostly.

"I will do what I must."

"And lying to them is what you must do? How about helping those people? Is that what you must do?" you were angry at her, that much was clear.

"I only plan on using their aid a much as necessary. Had you been in bed you wouldn't have even known they were here." she answered, her gaze fixed on your eyes.

"After what they did to us, El? After all they took?"

"I never meant for you to know." she answered.

"And that makes it ok?" you couldn't understand what she was thinking. "Had I known this was the plan I would have--"

"Would have what, Y/N? Betrayed me? Left my side like you are clearly planing to do?" She looked like a hurt, lost little girl.

"I would never abandon you, El. How could you say that?"

"I've seen you, N/N. When the time comes, do you really believe you'll be able to choose me over them?"

You hesitated, "Why is it necessary to choose? Why is it that you can not even consider--"

"There is no other way! I've made my choice, now you must make yours."

With those words she walked away, leaving you to watch her moon lit figure fade into the night.

None of this felt real.

I don't feel a single drop or the ground below.

Not even the rain.
