Chapter 20: Even if he's scared?

The three guys weren't you typical I have a boyfriend walk away stereotypes so introducing myself as her partner(ally) was useless. Not like I expected it to work though...

The guy in front amongst the three drunk men got angry and decided to get violent.

"I'm her partner"

"Don't give me that crap!"

When the guy was to throw his fist. I easily averted his attack. I grabbed his arm that he used to punch me and use his momentum to do a shoulder throw and slam him on the ground. 

"Hey! You cant do that to our friend!"

As the two guys was preparing to charge, I grabbed Haruka's hand and ran as fast as we can.

"Hey stop right there"

The reason why I pulled Haruka-san earlier is because it would be too difficult to run if we were backed in a corner. Now that our position is no longer trapped, we could now freely escape and run away.

As we were about to lose them, Haruka-san tripped and fell down and me tying to brake her fall.

The drunk guys caught up to us soon after.

"There's no running from us you little sh!ts!"

Haruka-san closed her eyes out of fear.

"Are you sure you want to do that here?" (Saito)

"..."

I said with a smug face the same time trying to hold back the pain that can be physically seen from the way my eye twitches.

"Guards!"

I screamed and called out for the guards and the drunk guys realized what they just have done.

The reason why no one was helping Haruka-san earlier was because the place she was being surrounded was a secluded area of the town (because the photo studio was placed in a silent space on purpose), so I figured we ran to a place with a lot of people.

I purposely brought them here where there are many guards around and eyes to see the scene.

The guards rush to come to our aid and arrested the three guys who were chasing us and harassing Haruka.

"It's alright now"

Haruka-san slowly opened her eyes.

When she opened her eyes she saw my face close to hers. I smiled at her to calm her down saying it's alright now.

"Are you okay?!"

Haruka-san quickly asked if I was okay. I didn't really got hurt in anyway other than from the fall. If there's anything I'm concerned about, it's her.

"I think so, how about you?"

"Thanks to you"

She said while smiling.

"Good... um... Haruka-san... can you get off of me now?"

"!"

Haruka-san seemed to forgot that she's still laying on top of me. Her face turned red as soon as she realized and tried to stood up quick, however, she fell even more making our face closer making her face even more red and flustered as a result.

This is so embarrassing... However, even though he saved me, I still know he's just the same as the others.

Haruka's face that was flustered earlier turned a little sadden.

When Haruka-san finally calmed down. She tried to look away at my face and her eyes ended up looking on my hands.

When she took a closer look, she noticed that my hands ware shaking.

He's shaking? He saved me even though he's scared?...

Actually, I could probably take on those three guys in hand to hand combat easily. I was just trying to take Haruka to somewhere safe and change into my Phantom attire but she suddenly slipped so I tried catching her.

The reason my hands were shaky, during the fall, Haruka-san's knee accidentally hit me in the crutch and right now I'm tying to hold back the pain and stayed silent about the matter because it would have been uncool for a shadow hero getting hit in the crotch specially in such a cool situation like this.

When Haruka-san finished gathering her thoughts she asked the question...

"Why did you save me?"

She asked with a serious look in her face as if trying to confirm something important.

She was thinking.

Why would he put himself in danger just like that. When I started to gathering fame, people I know changed. I've met people who only have intentions of getting closer with me because of my profession but I don't think anyone would risk themselves being in danger just like you did. I want to know the reason why?

Haruka-san's history with people up until now only have intentions of getting closer to her because of her face and now when she got her job, with it the fame that follows, people changed the way they look at Haruka and only saw her as someone from her profession.

It made her feel that every time people trying to get her attention weren't genuine and only seeing her for her job.

By meeting a lot of people with different personalities, Haruka-san gained the ability to read through peoples intentions however...

"Of course, you're my ally after all" monotone*

I said it as my shadow hero self.

He did all that just because... we're partners...?

After all, even though I'm a shadow hero, I, Phantom is still a hero. [an idiot]

Haruka-san tilted her head and was left dumbfounded by my answer. She couldn't get by what I meant when I said I did it just because we're partners.

Is this a new pick up line I haven't heard of? He even looks like he thinks he's so so cool too (chuckles)...

"Pfft... what kind of cheesy line is that? I don't get it hahaha"

Haruka san laugh and chuckled at my answer thinking it was a cheesy pick up line, combined with the serious expression on my face feeling all cool and all.

Even though she didn't get it, she felt the sincerity in my words.

"But I'll have to admit. You were pretty cool back there"

"So that means-"

"Sorry, but I think we should know each other better before you say something like that"

"?!.."

.....so we're not allies?

I was confused. Did I just got rejected(as an ally)?

The store owner rushed to the scene confirming if we're alright the moment he caught wind of the comotion.

We went to the police station and explain what happened in detail. Everything was resolve and the three men was heavily charged by their action and because of muscular store owner, their punishment was of the maximum penalty.

And so, the day ended with Haruka's heart skipping a beat and me being sad because I just assumed that we're comrade in arms.

[On the bright side he was able to fight bad guys so he took it on a positive note]

A/N: He basically got rejected but given the go signal. And of course that's not what he was thinking.
