You were in the party room helping your uncle Clint decorate for Wanda's birthday. Natasha was the one who went out and got the decorations and as always she got far too much.

"Why does mom always get so much decorations?" You asked Clint as you picked up a small ziplock bag and it was filled with happy birthday table confetti.

"Well your mom was in a very bad place growing up and no one there was allowed to celebrate their birthdays, Christmas or any holidays for that matter so your mom does all that she can to make sure that you and everyone else has the best birthdays." He informed you.

Tears started forming in your eyes you couldn't believe what you were hearing. You couldn't even imagine what it must have been like to not be allowed to celebrate your birthday especially since your mom always makes sure that your birthdays are memorable.

You put down the decorations that you were holding on a nearby table and you ran out of the room. You heard Clint call out your name but you just ignored him.

You ran to your mom's office and barged in. Normally you would knock and wait but you just couldn't this time you needed your mom and you needed her now.

You looked around the room but she wasn't there.

"Mama?" You called out tearfully.

"I'll be out in a second, Y/N," she called back out to you from the bathroom that was in her office.

You waited patiently for her and when you saw her you couldn't help but cry.

Natasha quickly walked over to you and gave you the biggest hug.

"What happened, baby?" She asked letting go of you so she could properly hear you but she kept her hands on your shoulders.

"Uncle Clint told me that you were in a bad place that didn't allow birthdays and it make me sad cause you always make sure that mine are the best and you couldn't have that growing up." You sobbed.

"Come here, sweetheart, it's alright." She held open her arms for you to fall into.

Even though she didn't show it she was mad at clint. She didn't want to tell you about her past but she knew that one day you would be curious to ask about it and she wanted to be the one to tell you.

She definitely was going to yell at Clint but right now you're all that mattered to her and she was going to spend as long as possible comforting you.

After a few seconds more of hugs, she lets you go, but not fully, she kept one arm around you and she led you over to the couch.

After you both get comfortable on the couch you curled up beside your mom and she puts her arm around you and pulls you in closer to her side.

"it's true we weren't allowed to celebrate anything there but there was a brief time for a few years when I was about your age. I was chosen to go on an undercover mission, but I didn't know that at the time, where I was sent to live with a family and I even had a little sister. Whilst we were there we got to celebrate them but then we were forced back and it all went away. Then when I had you I just knew that I had to get us both out of there and give you the best childhood ever."

"Then when Uncle clint found us and brought us back here I knew then everything will be better and it has been. You're safe and no one will be able to ever take you away from me. We are free to do whatever we like." She then kissed the top of your head a few times

"Mama?" You quietly asked.

"Yes, my love?" She asked as she combed through your hair with her fingers.

"Could maybe I meet your sister?"

"Maybe one day, baby, but I haven't seen her in a very long time I'm not even sure where she is."

"Oh." You said disappointedly

"Do you have any more questions?"

"What would happen if we got forced to go back to the bad place?" You wondered

Natasha's heart broke when she heard those words come out of your mouth

"You don't have to worry about that, baby, we will never have to go back there again. I promise I'm going to protect you forever okay?" Natasha explained.

You nodded your head agreeably.

"Do you want to stay with me or go back and help uncle Clint?"

"Stay here." You said snuggling in closer to your mom.
Natasha shifted you slightly so you were both spread out on the sofa, your head was lying on her chest, she covered you up with a blanket and started drawing small circles on your back. It didn't take long before you had fallen asleep.

Your mom had woken you up a few hours later it was now time to start getting ready for the party.
