Melinda
Starting over again.
I floated for a long time.
In this atmosphere that resembled what I knew to be outer space is where I levitated, and for how long? I could not tell. Everything that I knew of the celestial realm from the many books and research papers I had read was here: stars, suns, moons, galaxies, planets, and more. I could see the vast universe in front of me like a vivid picture; the colors were bright, intense, sparkling far brighter than any jewel I owned ever could. It was unreal, yet here I was breathing its air as if it were normal.
Somehow it felt as if the starry plane itself was carrying me like an ocean, my body buoyant above the glittering waves that carried me past the unfamiliar spheres of color and gas.
My eyes continued to scurry over the depths of the continuing universe taking in every single detail I could before they would pass me by. The waves weren't carrying me quickly, but somehow it felt like I was rushing away from all the objects my eyes brushed over.
I had absolutely no idea where I was going; around me, the void of darkness that was considered the sky of the universe was so black it seemed to devour anything it touched except the stars placed gently against the sheet that loomed brightly over it, guiding me to the unknown path.
I didn't really know how long I had been here, nor how I got here, to begin with. Where was the last place I had been? I asked myself. My mind scrambled for the thought for what seemed like millenniums before the jolt of shock shifted my body with a sizzling crackle.
Lightning! Right... I had seen a bolt of irregular light flash upon us before...
"Andrew!" My lips parted unprovoked to allow my sorrowful voice to call out to the vastness of the universe.
No response was met by my mournful hollers. Anytime I exclaimed, my voice returned to me in amplitude as if I myself were screaming in front of my own face. I rested against the waves of the celestial stars that continued to carry me into oblivion. Feeling completely defeated, I recalled once more I had no idea what I was doing in space. Was this heaven? Was this purgatory? Had I perished alongside Andrew in that car accident?
Many questions continued to plague my jumbled mind as I rested, gazing upon the foreign objects dancing around my figure.
I don't know how long I laid there, time seemed quite obsolete here. In this dimension in this... space. I was infinite, I was unrestrained, and most importantly...
I was free.
The feeling was riveting. Nothing I had ever experienced before in my life. The sole fact that I was conscious enough to understand that confused me greatly. But just as quickly as I sense the freeing sensation, the one of longing... as if I were missing a piece of me came rocketing at my chest. The knawing feeling of emptiness, unfulfilled of what I truly desired.
How long would I stay here before it came to an end?
The universe was beautiful. Something words alone could not fully describe, but to remain here constantly, floating about with no end destination in mind washed a great blanket of anxiety over my body instantly.
Body! My body! I immediately thought.
I sat up as best as I could in the flowing star-speckled waters and gazed upon my form... or what was my human form before I was thrust into this place. My body as I had known it to be melanated a dark mocha color with birthmarks here and there against my arms was no longer. I looked towards my legs and the same had occurred... I was translucent, my own imagery was that of the sparkling waters I was wading in, naked and completely devoid of any skin or matter to be exact.
