Andrew

Sometimes it pays to believe the one you trust.

Dear Andrew,

I miss you dearly since it's been several weeks now since I left for Cluyze. Our voyage was safe as it was swift, we arrived and were welcomed by my extended family who have been nothing short of kind and reliable as Chandrelle and I adapted to the new climate and culture of the people.

I really like it here. The Cluyzian Empire feels familiar like I've been here before. Maybe I am feeling reminiscent of our many trips to Jamaica as children or the copious vacations we took out of the country to see the world like we always dreamed of doing but this is the most comfortable I've felt since I came into this strange world.

I have a great feeling that you would enjoy visiting here as there is much to do. Many cities and districts are filled with history and architecture that rivals many of our old worlds; there are so many individuals here who hone the power of magic, it's a natural occurrence. The main city is bustling and the food will have you salivating at the mouth with a simple whiff of its fragrant air.

The clothing is so breathable and wearable, far more suitable to my tastes than the large dresses we have to wear even in the peak of the Vesnesian heat. I wish to take more garments with me back home so that I can wear them around a bit more, I am unsure how the women of society would take the difference in attire since they are so used to covering themselves more than the people here.

As for my extended family, they are as kind and welcoming as I ever anticipated them to be. They are quite accomplished as they are humbled and relaxed. They are not afraid to put their feet up and follow their own rules without the side glances of nobility pushing them down. It feels free to be around them and their daily lives. All of my cousins remind me of the ones I had in Jamaica; their personalities almost match a T, but maybe that is just my wishful thinking that I could have a piece of my old home following me wherever I go.

There are so many things I want to show and tell you when I return. We extended our trip a bit more so we could explore new places together, but I promise we will return swiftly. I will bring lots of gifts and souvenirs for you and your family when I visit the palace, so please do not miss me too much. My heart yearns to be beside you again as I cannot last very long without being in your presence.

Until then,

Melinda.

That was one of the three letters Melinda sent to me while on her trip to the Mageocracy of Cluyze. She had left suddenly with her aunt and uncle that had come to visit her nearly a month ago; the trip was abrupt and unexpected so much she wouldn't be attending the first royal event she was allowed to be present which was my brother's coming of age ceremony.

Coming-of-age ceremonies were a very big deal here in this country. A mark of adulthood in a girl's and boy's life. Fourteen for girls and sixteen for boys. My brother would now be considered an adult although in my previous world no such thing wouldn't be true until I was eighteen, I digress.

These kinds of ceremonies are usually preluded with a blessing ritual at the Temple of Emus performed by the Archbishop, in the case of royalty. Followed by that was a procession in the streets for Tychon, and in the evening an opulent banquet filled the brim with the highest of nobility to celebrate the Crown Prince.
