In a world where everything seems perfectly logical and pragmatic. The thought of anything existing outside of the realm of what one already knows seems impractical.
That is how Melinda Morrison sees life.

"Alright residents of New Beginnings Senior Care, let's head to the recreation center so we can finish decorating those cupcakes we baked!"
Senior citizens either on walkers, canes, and wheelchairs followed the director of the event as they ushered them to the rec area of the facility to finish decorating the cupcakes we had already spent about an hour or so baking in the kitchen.
We were here in Fresno about three hours and thirty minutes from Los Angeles doing a charity event on behalf of our team. About half our team was here spending the day with the elderly folks and some of the Charger Girl dancers were also here. Earlier there were some fun games out on the lawn and a barbeque and after that, there was a performance by the dancers followed by some cupcake baking. A lot of this stuff here was documented meaning cameras, videos, and pictures I'm sure to show how "devoted" the team was to help out in their free time, but we all knew this was a photo-op.
I had nothing against it. It was part of my contract to attend team events and this was just part of said obligation. Nine times out of ten, this was going to be the first and last time our team would step in here, but it seemed that the old folks were having a grand time, a little spark of excitement in their usually mundane lives so I was happy to help with that.
Some of the guys here weren't used to the kind of personalities that came with a nursing home but I had very much become accustomed to it. Ms. Jannie worked in long-term care facilities and similar assisted-living homes and from time to time she would bring Melinda, my brothers, and me to come and volunteer whether that be spending time with the elders or cooking and bringing something in for them to eat. Ms. Jannie was always so ready and active in her community, her warm heart spread over to us without much of a fuss.
I helped a few residents up and out of their seats, escorting them safely to the other area before making my way back to where I started. I spotted Shane with an older woman slowly rolling herself in a walker as he escorted her toward where I had just come from.
"Where are we going?" Her croaky voice asked.
"We're going to decorate the cupcakes we just made Ms. Jefferson. Are you excited?" Shane asked.
The woman slowly turned to him, her small feet shuffling in slow sweeps against the vinyl flooring.

Ms. Anderson completely ignored his question and inquired one of her own. "When are you going to marry me, handsome man?"
Shane noticed my presence and smirked.
"Well, man hurry up and answer her. I gotta know when to buy my tux for the wedding." I teased.
Ms. Anderson chuckled. "You look handsome too, I'll marry both of you and have two husbands!" She exclaimed.
