Andrew

A friend in you is mine.

Latona-Rune Da Lo Vetmus, otherwise known as Runnie or Toni to my brother and me was a precious little girl born of my mother's kindness and warm energy. She radiated the same kind of light and I was glad she turned out to be a girl; the lack of a feminine presence in the palace outside of the maids and servants was tiresome. Everything seemed to be a power flex for the rich and affluent nobles that crawled around, but here, with mother and Latona, it felt alright, even if it was just for a little.

I guess that's why my older brother enjoyed being around us so much that it became a habit. I remember the day Latona was born; the snow was still but the wind was rapid at night. I was awoken only because the maids were in disarray as I could hear the murmurs of their frantic whispers signaling that my mother was giving birth at the moment.

I couldn't go to see her, nor comfort her because the room was off-limit to males outside of the royal doctor. I stayed up the rest of the night waiting to hear news of the birth; I was worried. In this time period, maternal death rates were a lot higher than that in the modern world I came from. I worried my mother wouldn't be treated correctly and sent to an early grave. In such little time, the woman I felt slightly uncomfortable around was making me feel on edge about her well-being.

Then little Runnie was born in the wee hours of the morning. Both mother and the baby were alive, healthy, and happy. One of the maids was the one to burst into my room to announce the birth and the gender of the baby.

"Ah! It's a girl, your highness, can you believe it?! You have a little princess sister now!" I remember how her voice called out to me.

Later on in the afternoon of the day when things had settled, I finally got the opportunity to meet her. Mother looked completely exhausted but heavenly as the glow of the morning rays basked her delicate features in shimmering light. She was holding the small baby girl in her hands when she encouraged me to come beside her and take a turn to place her in my arms.

I was a bit nervous. I hadn't held a baby in forever, not to mention in a small body like this.

But I did. And I was completely enamored by her precious features. As expected of a newborn, she was tiny. Her skin was quite light, the color of soft pink and porcelain. Her hair, although short at the moment was silky and carried the same shade of flamingo and pastel pink. Her eyes were different from mothers and mine, they were the same fierce tangerine orange with mixtures within the core of the pupils.

She seemed to be a good mixture of mother and father.

Over the months she grew well, she had to be around six to seven months at this current time and a lot more energetic than in the beginning; she definitely had the spunk to her personality even at her young age.

I spent time with her and my mother as best as I could when I wasn't being hounded with coursework and other activities such as swordsmanship training and horseback riding. At times just laying against the grass with my eyes closed soaking in the heated rays of the sun were the only moments to myself I could get; I surely could do without the attention that was being displayed to me since Tychon had taken a liking to me.
