Arjun leaves after college and goes to the place he worked part time. He worked in an office near his school. His work wasn't difficult. He had to schedule meetings with the clients and maintain a time table of those meetings. 

He earned a decent income from his work and the rest would be managed by his father's pension.

Combining both the incomes their monthly income came to around Rs. 60,000. Arjun made it a routine to save 30,000 every month. 10,000 for general expenses and 20,000 for his college fees.

By the end of the year both the accounts got emptied and things would get difficult in the beginning of each year.

But Arjun knew he couldn't lose his hope and he worked his bones off to give his parents a decent comfortable life. 

They lived in a chawl area in a two room apartment. Arjun knew that they could afford only one air conditioner and so he put that in his parents room.

He saw a hand in front of his face and blinked realising where he was.

"Where were you?"

The girl who introduced herself as Aisha asked him with a smile. The girl he helped in the lift.

He smiled and shook his head.

"Tum jyada bolte nhi ya mai kuch special hu?"

(You don't speak much or am I getting the special treatment?)

She asked again and he again shook his head.

"Aisa kuch nhi hai. I just don't have anything to speak right now."

(There is nothing like that.)

She smiled and they settled in the canteen.

"What will you have?"

"Nothing. I am not hungry. You order."

"Aisa kaise? This is my treat and you have to have something."

(How come?)

Arjun realised that she wasn't going to back down. He sighed and said.

"Fine! Then you order for both of us. Since its your treat."

He smiled and she smiled back.

"Ok. Ummm.....how about pasta? You like white sauce pasta? Its amazing here. And I think spring rolls. What say?"

Arjun nodded and they went to order. They stood there waiting for their order and came back to their seats with two plates of steaming hot pasta and spring rolls.

(*Hehe I am evil. 😈*)

After they had their food they got up and Aisha finally turned to him and smiled.

"Thank you so much. Aaj tumne jo kia hai I'll always be grateful to you. Thank you."

(Whatever you did today.)

Arjun smiled and shook his head. 

"Its ok. You don't need to thank me."

Both of them smiled at each other and left for their respective classes. Aisha took the stairs this time. Her fear of lifts was back again and she knew she wouldn't be able to use a lift any time soon.

The next few days Arjun had his internal exams so he came earlier than usual. He was expecting to see Aisha but did not meet her after that. He thought that maybe he was coming very early and that's why he didn't see her.

A week later his exams were over and he was waiting near the lift on their usual time when he saw her enter the building. But instead of coming near the lift area she went to the stairs.

"Aisha!"

He called her and she turned. She smiled widely seeing him after so many days.

"I thought you forgot me so soon. Itne dino se dikhe hi nhi."

(I did not see you from so long.)

She complained cutely and he smiled.

"Exams the. Jaldi aa rha tha."

(I had exams. Was coming early.)

She made an 'o' face and nodded.

"Kaise gye exams?"

(How were your exams?)

"Good."

She smiled and he asked her.

"Stairs se kyu jaa rhi ho?"

(Why are you usingg stairs?)

"Uss din ke baad I can't use lifts. Atleast not alone."

(I can't use lifts after that day.)

She mumbled the last part. That incident still scared her a lot. She tried using the lift but the fear that it would stop and she would be stuck alone scared the shit out of her.

"Let's do one thing. We meet here daily and hum saath mai jaayenge. Ok? Agar kabhi mai jaldi aa gaya toh I'll wait for you and kabhi if you are early toh tum mere wait kr lena. Cool?"

(We will go together. If some day I come early then I will wait for you and if some day you come early so you wait for me.)

He suggested and she beamed instantly. 

"Very cool."

He smiled widely seeing her wide smile. His mood mirroring hers.

"Toh chale phir?"

(Then shall we go?)

He asked and she nodded. Arjun pressed the button to call the lift when Aisha's phone rang.

"Hello....bas lift ke saamne hu....paanch minute mai aa rhi hu."

(Just in front of the lift...reaching in 5 minutes.)

She said and disconnected the call. She saw Arjun look at her with a questioning gaze.

"Anushka. My friend. Puchh rhi thi kaha hu."

(She was asking where am I.)

He nodded and they entered the lift. Thankfully for Aisha the lift didn't stop this time and they reached their floors absolutely fine.

And that was what their routine was. They would wait for each other near the lift every day and come together. 

They had each other's numbers now and had talked on call a few times. In college only. 

Arjun knew that he and Aisha were no match and that he should not be friends with someone of such high social status but there was something in her that told him that his social status won't matter to her.

He had told her about his financial condition and surprisingly she was very normal and ok with it. In fact what she said shocked him the most.

"You are very strong Arjun. Your parents must be so proud of you. And I am very lucky ki mujhe tum jaisa friend mila hai."

(I am very lucky to get a friend like you.)

And since that day there equation has changed a bit. They gave grown more close to each other and Arjun was introduced to Aisha's friends. Since Arjun never made many friends he was very happy to make so many friends.

Like Aisha all her friends were nice and genuine. Even when Aisha was not around they treated him the same as they did in front of her.

Aisha didn't even realise when their first year was over it was her second semester final exams.

Two days after their final exams got over they received a notification from college that a trip to Jim Corbett was being organised for all the first year students of all the departments. 

Aisha was very excited and had right away asked Tushar. He had said yes to her and she bounced happily thanking him a million times.

Tushar chuckled at her antics and kissed her head lovingly.
