Over a month had passed since the two have been married and Atharv has been nothing but rude to her. Snapping at every chance he got and being angry with her all the time.
He hadn't once talked to her and tried to get his thoughts sorted. Everytime he tried to Naman's lifeless face and the page from his diary came into his mind and his brain would stop working.
But Anvi had never once complained and bore everything with a smile thinking it to he his frustration of work. His work was still being shifted from London to India and he was really busy in that.
She walked into their room with a wide smile to greet him when she heard his voice. His back was turned to her and he was talking to someone on phone. She froze hearing his words and was shocked.
"Nhi please trust me baby. I swear I don't love her. I love you. And soon I am going to marry you. She isn't anyone in my life. Temporary hai wo. You are permanent my love."
(She is temporary.)
She walked to him and whispered slowly.
"Atharv?!"
He turned to her and disconnected the call. He put his hands in the pocket and gave her a blank look.
"What is all this? Kis se baat kr rhe the aap?"
(Who were you talking to?)
He shrugged and said.
"Girlfriend se."
(To my girlfriend.)
He said as if it wasn't a big deal.
"Stop joking Atharv."
She said trying to convince herself. He smiled for a moment giving her momentary relief.
"Why would I joke about this Anvi?"
Her smile fell but she did not budge.
"Really? Girlfriend? Come on Atharv. You are married to me."
She said and tried to turn but his words stopped her.
"So what? Adultery isn't a crime anymore."
He said with a casual shrug and she gave him a hurt look for saying that.
"Haan toh? Mai nhi maanti it was a girlfriend."
(So what? I don't believe it was a girlfriend.)
He shrugged and said.
"Mat maano. But it is the truth. She was my girlfriend. Nisha."
(Then don't.)
When he took a name she lost it.
"Kyu kr rhe hai aap ye sab Atharv? We have been married for a month now and aapne abhi tak mujhse pyaar se baat tak dur meri taraf pyaar se dekha bhi nhi. Hamesha sirf gussa kia hai. Lekin maine kuch nhi kaha thinking it to be your frustration about work. But this is not funny Atharv."
(Why are you doing this Atharv? You haven't talked to me with love nor even looked at me. Alwasys angry. But I never said anything thinking it to be your work frustration.)
She whispered the last part and his lost his sense. He held her shoulders and she clutched his shirt from his chest area.
"Yes it is not funny. It never was funny."
He yelled making her look at him wide eyed.
"Killing my brother was not funny."
He shouted making her heart beat loudly.
"Naman?"
She whispered but he was in another world.
"He kept loving you like a madman and you rejected him on his face. It was not funny."
"Love...me?"
She was confused and looked at him trying to understand what he was saying.
"Hurting him to the extent that he commits suicide is not funny."
"Suicide?"
She looked lost. Tears started pooling in her eyes. He seemed to be in a trance.
"He couldn't bear the pain and hurt of being rejected openly. You killed my brother."
He said and pushed her away from him. She lost her balance and fell on the bed with a thud. The accusation he put on her revolving around her mind.
"He loved me? Usne mujhe kabhi bataya hi nhi. I never knew he felt something like that for me. How can I reject him when I did not even know -"
(He never told me.)
She suddenly stopped as she realised what he was talking about.
"I remember now what you are talking about. It was the day I got to know ki aap wapas aa rhe hai. I was very happy. Naman said he wanted to meet me. Lekin wo kuch kehta isse pehle I told him my feelings for you. Mai usse ye baat aur nhi chhupana chahti thi."
(But before he could say something I told him my feelings for you. I didn't want to hide it from him anymore.)
She said and tears fell from her eyes non stop.
"I thought he was shocked. He wasn't. He was hurt."
She whispered and closed her eyes.
"Lekin wo suicide nhi kr skta. My Naman wasn't weak. He knew his importance in my life. He knew I'll choose him over you in a heartbeat. He can't commit suicide because of this reason."
(But he can't commit suicide.)
She kept repeating over and over again. Atharv looked lost. What if what she was saying was true and she never rejected him. Then why did Naman write all that.
He went out of the room which had started to suffocate him. He needed to clear his mind and know the truth.
The page from Naman's diary came back in his mind.
She doesn't love me! She loves him. She loves bhai. Anvi loves bhai. She doesn't love me.
And now he realised that he had never written that she rejected him or he wanted to die. But since it was the last thing he wrote in his diary before his death he assumed it to be a suicide note.
He went to the only person who could help him right now. He knocked at his father's study and entered inside.
"How did Naman die papa?"
He asked not beating around the bush making his father shock.
"Aise achanak ye?"
(Suddenly this?)
He didn't know why Atharv was asking this after two years.
"Please papa I need to know this. What happened that day?"
His father sighed and closed his eyes as if recalling the day.
"Bank gye then hum. Me and Naman. He was coming back from there and crossing the road. Everything happened in a second. A big truck came towards him with great speed. Wo samajh nhi paya kya ho rha hai and the next second the truck hit him killing him on the spot."
(We went to the bank. He couldn't understand what was happening.)
Atharv stumbled and fell on the couch.
He didn't commit suicide. His brother didn't commit suicide. He hurt his wife without any cause and reason.
He felt angered and disgusted with himself for hurting an innocent soul which came out as form of tears and he sat there crying his heart out.
