"Mehreen!"
Mehreen came out of the kitchen hearing her mother's voice.
"Ji ammi?"
(Yes mom?)
Her mother smiled and said.
"Tumhara nikkah ka joda aa gaya hai. Upar tumhare kamre mai hai. Jaake dekh lo."
(Your marriage dress is here. Its in your room. Go see it.)
She said and Mehreen blushed red. She was a professor in a college and was getting married to one of her senior professors.
He had sent the alliance two months back and that's when she got to know that he liked her too.
She had a huge crush on him and said yes instantly and two days later was their nikkah and rukhsati ceremony.
She lowered her eyes and rushed to her room making her mother chuckle behind her.
She reached her room but stopped seeing all her cousin sisters sitting there around her joda.
She cleared her throat and asked them.
"Aap sab yaha kya kr rhe ho?"
(What are you all doing here?)
Her eldest cousin turned to her and teased her.
"Tumhare nikkah ka joda yaha hai Mehreen. Zara dekho toh kitna khubsurat hai ma sha allah. Hamza bhaijaan toh dekhte hi reh jaayenge tumhe."
(Your marriage dress is here. Look how beautiful it is. Hamza will not be able to avert his eyes from you.)
Mehreen blushed even more and whined asking them not to tease her. They laughed but stopped teasing her.
She then sat on the bed and admired her beautiful joda. It was so pretty. A beautiful pastel cream.
"Ohho! Ladki ka chehra toh dekho. Abhi se suhagraat ke sapne dekhne lagi kya?"
(See her face. Are you dreaming about your wedding night?)
Mehreen looked at her cousin wide eyed. She was a shameless one.
"Aapi!"
(Sister!)
She exclaimed feeling flushed. They all laughed again and finally after a good teasing session left her alone.
Mehreen laid back on her bed and smiled thinking about her fiance.
Both of them had decided to keep it halal and not indulge in any conversation until their marriage.
After dinner Mehreen was strolling in the garden. She felt content. She was going to he married to her love in two days.
While going back to her room she heard some noises from the terrace. It seemed like something broke.
She went above to check and saw her cousin Rehaan and his friends there. They had come the same day and were staying for the wedding.
He smiled sheepishly and looked at the broken vase that was on the table.
Mehreen shook her head and was about to go back when her eyes fell on bottles of whiskey and cigarette packets on the table.
"Rehaan? Ye sab kya chal rha hai yaha? Aap jaante hai na ki agar baba ya chhote baba ko pata chala toh wo kitne khafa honge."
(What is going on? You know if dad or uncle comes to know he will be so mad.)
She said pointing towards the items and Rehaan scoffed.
