Babies have such soft and supple skin; bouncy to the touch; innocent in texture.
"Poke enough and the tyke will disappear."
You pause your snuggling, forcibly peeling yourself from Kakashi, as you direct a stare at Madara. He's engrossed in his hobby-- one that you recently discovered during your time together. It appears that the west wing of the estate holds a memorial for his brother and an area to fulfill his falconry hobby. Neither are known by the public, and he prefers it that way.
Seated in another room that overlooks the forest, you have Kakashi on your lap while you watch Madara feed his birds. There are three, a falcon and two hawks. They are well-maintained and well-mannered as a bird can be, and just like any other creature in this world, they do not disregard Madara's command.
You've seen them three times now, today being the third, but you have yet to know their names. The first time, he just walked over and tended to them while ignoring you. The second time, you fell asleep and napped throughout the afternoon. But today, you would like to delve deeper into the friendship territory.
"So, what are their names?"
His eyes do not leave his birds. "Goto, Sato, Ito."
You suppress the urge to laugh at the rhyme, finding it adorable compared to his stoicism. "How lovely."
Curiosity pulls his focus over to you. He spots a genuine smile and a lack of need to heckle his childish names; his heart feels safe.
He then stares down at the child, who is secured on your lap. Kakashi seems enamored by the animals as he waves his tiny hands at them. When you notice his attention on them, you pluck the pacifier out of his mouth.
"See that?" you coo while pointing at the birds. "Bird. Bird."
You enunciate the word as best you can. He's been attempting speech recently, albeit in an adorable fashion, and you hope to enrich his vocabulary.
"Bwerd."
"Biiiird."
"Beeeewb."
You can practically hear Madara's smirk and sigh, "Good try, Kakashi."
He smiles and babbles a bit before returning to his quiet self and watching the birds. Madara takes a few more minutes to tend to them then allows them to depart for hunting.
You have yet to see them return with prey and recite your ponderings, "What happens when they come back with kill?"
"There are some vendors that take it and make food with it," he answers mechanically as he washes his hands in a bin nearby. Once cleaned, he joins you on the floor's surface and crosses his arms.
"I didn't know you were such an interesting man with your hobby."
"It's part of the Uchiha culture. We use them for transmitting messages and hunting back in the Warring Period. The need for them has greatly diminished that only a select few still carry the knowledge to handle them."
