"Hello" Karan said as soon as Teja picked up his call.

"Hmm" Teja said in a cold tone.

"What happened" Karan asked

"Nothing"

"Okay then.
You know what, the physiotherapist said that I can start my practice from the next week."

"Hmm, nice "

"I also completed reading that book, which you suggested me."

"Good."

"Also Ruturaj called me in the evening and...."

"You seriously don't care right"

"About what"

"About me . It is so evident that I am sad but you won't do anything about it"

"I asked you, but you said it was nothing."

"And you believed it."

"No , but I thought that you don't want to share it with me , so I didn't force you."

"Oh please, I share everything with you"

Karan smiled and his cheeks started turning pink , but he soon covered it up and said,
"so what is it"

"One of my college friend got attacked by a patient 's family."

"What! Is he fine"

"Yes, he is. "

"But why did they attack him"

"People nowadays have become so intolerant that they start fighting even at the slightest inconvenience. The patient was critical and needed a surgery asap , but the family denied saying that it was a trick to earn more money and the patient can get cured by medicines."

"Are you serious, this was the reason."

"Yes, and this is so wrong. You know violence against doctors has increased so much recently, and sometimes the reasons are so petty. Okay I can understand, your close one is not well and you are worried about them , but how can beating up the doctor help you. At the same time we are not God to do some miracle, we try to do our best to save people, but sometimes even we can not do anything.
Like just imagine a female doctor almost 40 years old being assaulted by a man because she asked him to get admitted.
There are so many instances like this, where people get physical with doctors .
Atleast there is no discrimination done in this, people do not care if the doctor is a male or a female, they just get physical. There are doctors who even lost their lives because of this." Teja said helplessly.

"But there must be a solution right."

"Ofcourse there is, hire bodyguards and add self defence as a subject in college." Teja said with a sad chuckle.

This was the first time Teja was speaking about this with Karan. He could feel how sad Teja was because of it.

Karan was aware about the violence against doctors , but listening it from a doctor felt different.

"It's a tough job isn't it " Karan said.

"It is,but I guess we signed up for it. It brings a lot of respect and sometimes a lot of pain too" Teja said with a smile.

A few days later,

"Karan, did you get to know about it" one of Karan's friend said on a call

"About what. "

"Dr Suman's hospital got attacked" Karan heard

"What, are you sure" Karan said being shocked.

"Yes I am sure, I just got a call from a friend, he was saying that the condition was quite serious."

Karan could not say a word. Even imagining the possibilities was making him anxious.

"Teja works there right, call her , you will know."

Karan immediately cut the call and tried calling Teja .

' Teja pick up the damn phone '
' Teja please '

Even after calling her a few times Teja didn't pick up the call, so Karan decided to call in the hospital .

" Sir Dr Tejasswi is not here. She went to the city hospital "

Karan did not waste a single minute and left for the hospital, at the same time continuously trying Teja's phone.

' Teju please pick up the call...God ...how can someone be so careless ' Karan said out of fustration.

As the time passed Karan's heartbeat started getting faster. Negative thoughts were clouding his mind and he was feeling helpless.

' Karan, nothing will happen to her, don't worry ' Karan said, trying to calm himself.

The road which normally took half an hour to cover was traveled in less than twenty minutes. He reached the city hospital and rushed towards the reception.

"Dr Tejasswi" he asked the receptionist

"The third room from the right." She answered

"It's nothing serious right." Karan asked with trembling voice.

"I don't know sir, the doctors are seeing her ."

Karan stood there for a moment, closed his eyes and rubbed his face. He still could not believe anything happening to Teja.

His legs became wobbly, but somehow he started walking towards the room. He wanted to be there with her as soon as possible but at the same time he could not imagine Teja being hurt . He was scared to death.

As soon as he took the right turn, he saw a girl standing with the support of a wall with her head down. It did not take even a second for Karan to recognise who this was.

"Teju" he said , ran towards her and took her in a tight hug.

A hug never felt this peaceful. Just having her safe in his arms was enough for Karan. He rested his head on her shoulder, and made the hug even more tighter.

Teja could not process what happened. The only thing she saw was Karan taking her name and the next second she was hugging him.

"Karan, what happened" Teja asked with concern.

"Teju , are you fine" Karan asked, without breaking the hug.

"Yes I am fine, but what are you doing here . What happened Karan" Teja said caressing his back. She could sense that Karan was really tensed.

Karan broke the hug , cupped Teja's face, scanned her from head to toe to see if she was injured and then said, "Are you sure , you are fine "

"Ofcourse Karan I am good, what would happen to me , I am completely fine. But what happened to you why do you look so tensed."

"Why were you not picking up my call "

"My phone... I guess I left it in the car, but what happened."

Karan wanted to say something when a doctor came out of the room.

"She is stable now, you can meet her . Further decisions about her surgery will be taken after we get the reports" the doctor said.

"Who is admitted here" Karan asked in confusion.

"Dr Suman. She got a heart attack this morning."
