Yes, because when she got to know it...
The night was clear and starry . They both stood at one of the corners of the terrace. One of them was star gazing and the other was gazing his star.
"Why do you like the stars so much." He asked.
"Firstly, I don't merely like them, but I love them . And secondly, what is there to not love about them, aren't they just beautiful."
"They are. But there are more things equally or even more beautiful than them, but you seem to have just some other kind of affection for stars. Why ?"
"Because they make me realise that the universe is vast and I am not even a dot infront of it." She said with a smile still staring at the sky.
"Seriously, this is why you love them." He was getting more curious now.
She sighed and looked at him, "We normally take life so seriously right, as in the world revolves around us. We just give too much importance to ourselves, even more to our miseries. Don't we ?."
He nodded agreeing to whatever she said.
"So that's why I love them. They tell me whatever that is happening with me is not really that serious. It's just life, happening to billion of people along with me. It's is comforting. "
He didn't say anything.
"Weird right?" She asked.
"Not weird, but a totally different perspective. I could have never looked at them the way you do . Actually I don't think much about these things. I have never thought about the things like you normally do. Like the sunrise, the sunset, mountains, beach, clouds , rain . You feel them . It's not superficial as it is with me. I might just look at them , find them beautiful, take a few photos and that's it. I hardly remember how they made me feel. "
"Not your fault. I guess that's how life has been for most of us. We are too busy, so we easily forget to enjoy these things. "
"Hmm, agreed. That's why I am more glad that I found you. You make me feel alive, everyday, every moment." He said, still looking at the sky.
"Is this some kind of birthday speech you are planning for, should I be prepared."
He looked at her and smiled, she was adorable and he loved her...a lot. So he decided to tease her.
"Prepared ? For what ? " He asked squinting his eyes.
"My gift." She said excitedly.
"You really think I brought you one. Isn't having me by your side enough." He bit his cheek to stop his laugh. "Isn't this beautiful night enough. This is your gift." He said dramatically pointing towards the sky and then both of them.
"Ohh... okay. I just thought...."
"What ? "
"Nothing. I love this. Just forget whatever I said.... I was being silly." She said lowering her head . She felt bad . ' What's wrong with you, you were never this materialistic ' she said to herself.
Karan noticed this, so he pulled her infront of him and gave her a back hug. He then moved her hair to one side and pecked her cheek.
"Happy Birthday Teju" he whispered in her ear and held a delicate necklace infront of her .
She quickly turned to look at him and then back at the necklace.
It was a diamond solitaire pendant in a gold chain.

"Did you like" it he asked slightly raising his brow.
"I love it. It's beautiful. This actually looks like a star." She said with a big smile and touched the pendant softly.
"Take it. It's yours. "
Teja instantly moved back a little and said, "This looks expensive."
Karan sighed. "Yes it is. It literally took me 25 days of research and numerous phone calls to get it delivered, and above all a lot of thought and love. So yes it is expensive."
She shook her head, "You are just too good with your words. "
"I know." "Now, can I ?" He asked for her permission to make her wear it.
She just nodded with a smile which was adamant to not leave her face.
And that's all she could anyway do, as all of her strength went into stopping her tears from falling.
She closed her eyes. This felt like a dream, a real one.
"This will remind you of me , when I am away." He said while fastening the necklace .
"There was no need to remind me that you are going away." She said fighting her tears. Though soon, she lost.
"I'm sorry" he said softly wiping off her tears from her cheeks. "I didn't mean it that way. You will always have me close, you know it. "
Teja nodded again and wiped off the last few tears from her eyes.
"I just didn't want to scare you off with a ring so I decided for a pendant." Karan said raising his shoulders.
Teja chuckled.
"What! I'm serious."
"And that makes it even more funny. "
He glared at her and then looked away.
Teja went near him, slowly caressed his cheeks and made him look at her.
Teja moved closer, so thinking that she was going to kiss his cheek he turned his face slightly.
But Teja turned his face back,pecked his lips and moved back.
Karan stood still without blinking his eyes, still trying to register what happened.
"You could have atleast given me a heads up." He said.
