"The last time we remember you playing in Australia you hit a double century. How does it feel to be back here." The interviewer asked.

"It feels great. It's always fun to bat here . I hope that we will see some good games on the Australian pitch." Karan answered.

"Finally, I would like to ask , how does it feel to be a part of the world cup squad."

"It always feels amazing to get the chance to represent India. Ofcourse , world cup is a little more special.
Umm...to be honest the last few months were not that good for me personally, but I am looking forward and I really hope that I can contribute to the team and we can get the desired result for the country "

"All the best Karan, thankyou for speaking to us."

"Thank you."

Teja was on call during the entire interview.

"Are you there" Karan asked.

"Yes. And I must say , you are a really good speaker . Good work."

"Thanks." He said with a smirk.

"So , you are done for the day , or there are more interviews lined up. "

"No more interviews , but a photoshoot in our new jersey is yet to be done. After that I will be free. "

"Fine . But right now I have a few questions for you. Can you answer them quickly. "

"Yes . I have a few minutes."

"Perfect. So shoes or watch."

"Umm I guess a watch. "

"Thank God. You already have so many shoes I didn't want to add one more. "

"Wait....are you planning to buy me something. "

Teja didn't answer him and went on to ask another question.

"Smart watch or a normal one."

"Teju , there's one watch I wanted to buy from a long time. Do you want to know which one is it ."

"Yes please. I hope it fits my budget though." She said and laughed awkwardly.

"What is your budget."

"Ummm... I know that watches can be really expensive so I have decided that I can go upto 2 lakhs, which I know is still very less, but 2 lakhs is max. "

"What!" Karan exclaimed "Are you serious."

"Yeah."

"Don't worry then. The one I want isn't that expensive. It could be out of stock though. So you will have to make some extra efforts. "

"No problem, I will manage. Send me the model name soon."

"Okay. But can I know why is my girlfriend being so generous all of a sudden."

"Because it's your birthday in twenty days." Teja said joyfully.

"Ohh." He said "You know, you can even surprise me just the way I did on your birthday. Just giving some ideas."

Teja felt guilty. She knew that even Karan wished to have her by her side just the way she did .
But she never went out the country, so flying to Australia all alone that too in such a short time was impossible.

"I will be with you for sure on your next birthday, I promise. This year, it's not possible. Sorry." She said making a sad face.

Karan imitated her sad face and said. "Fine. Okay now I have to go. Bye ."

"Bye . "

The team was performing brilliantly in the group stages. They were unbeatable and topped in their group
.
Karan was playing better. He had a score of above fifty in three out of five games he played and in one he almost reached the century.

He seemed to be back in his form. The team, his fans and he himself were happy by his performance.

India was going to play their semifinals against New Zealand just a day after Karan's birthday.
So as a norm , the team got a cake at 12 to celebrate Karan's birthday.

The cake cutting was chaotic and messy as it always was, in which the players more than eating the cake used it for rubbing it on each others faces.

This time they planned a surprise too , so everyone settled down and a video played on the screen.

The coach, the captain and then followed by the other team members wished Karan in this video.
Some of the international players who played with Karan during IPL were also included.
Then came the message of his first ever coach, under whose guidance Karan started his cricketing journey.

As Karan thought that the video was over a video message from his parents showed up and then was his sister.

It was an emotional moment. So far from home he obviously missed his family.
His family supported him and believed in him when he himself didn't. It was only because of the trust they showed in him he could do what he loved, playing for his country.

He covered his face with a his hand and slightly rubbed his eyes to avoid tears.

Then he heard her, "Hi Karan, I hope you are doing good"  Teja said flashing her brightest smile.

To say that Karan was shocked would be an understatement. He never thought that she could actually do this, she was a really private person afterall.

"Ooho .... doctor is here." Rishabh shouted.

Out of the people present there , a few knew Teja as she worked with the team for a few days and few sat clueless.

"You must know," She said "surely you must know how important you are to me.
You hold a very special place in my life and I will always be grateful to God that I got to meet you and know you personally.
Thank you for everything.
Wish you a very happy birthday. "

The video ended and the screen turned black.

Cheers filled the room , and in the centre sat Karan who laughed and blushed at the same time.

The younger teammates teasingly asked him, "Bhaiya, bhabhi hai kya ?"

To which Karan blushed more and nodded.

"Mujhe toh pehle se hi lag raha tha, ki kuch toh chal raha hai inn dono ke beech." Rishabh said.

"Haan isko toh sub kuch pehle se hi pata hota hai." Ruturaj teased him and everyone laughed.
