Steven was staring at the sky from the view of the bed. The pain from his back was slowly going away, because his body was numb from rejuvenation. Steven was wondering what he was missing to make his powers come back.

Steven knows rejuvenation's primary cure is the same cure for amnesia, but it's hard to remember something that he doesn't even know what it is. Steven's memory is near-perfect, as he remembers everything he learned from his two-years he spent training and educating himself about Homeworld. Manufacturing a cure isn't possible this time, because Moonlight is nowhere to be found, and the only one with equipment to do that is Huge Gigantacus, who doesn't look like he'll be doing more favors for Steven any time soon.

Steven tried racking his brain to find out what could make him 'remember.' So, he tried thinking what made the other gems remember. From what he was told, Amethyst was cured because she remembered that her imperfections made her unique and different, Pearl was cured when experienced the loss of her master, and Garnet was cured when Ruby and Sapphire fused and discovered the truth about something.

Steven was trying to link a connection to what made them remember based on their remedies. He figured out that all of them were a big part of their origins, what made them what they are. So, the cure to rejuvenation is finding his identity?

It's ironic, cheesy and cliche. Steven can't recall what made him find his identity, he just... became what he is today. He knows there's more than that, but he can't figure out what.

Before he could figure out what, he blinked and suddenly he was somewhere else. This was the ghost doing some sort of hallucination trick to deceive him, and to everyone's surprise, he's indulging it. Because there's nothing better for him to do.

He was standing up, which isn't possible since his back was still broken, but he won't question it. He saw two bodies from afar, he knows them. He walked up to them, sighing when he reached them.

It was Pink Diamond and his father. Both of them weren't moving and their eyes were closed, indicating that they were dead. Steven kneeled down and touched the ground, paying his respects.

"How does it feel, Universe? To lose both of your parents. Do you feel sad? Full of rage? Or does being a hero help bury your feelings, hiding your true self? Oh, you're truly an extraordinary specimen. I look forward to breaking you."
