3rd Person P.O.V.
Out of all of Steven's powers and gadgets he collected over the years, Detective Mode is a gadget he's glad that he still has. It even has higher value over his super strength or speed.
It has so many practical applications, the possibilities are nearly endless.
Steven follows the heat trail his mother left behind with Detective Mode, one of its many useful features. And he finally came across her, alone, out in the wilderness.
The snow falls from the empyrean and coveys a chilling environment, setting the already established tension between the both of them. Steven bravely steps closer to her and turned off Detective Mode.
"Mom..." Steven softly spoke, making sure he didn't frighten her.
Then she alarmed him when she bitterly spat, "don't call me that... you already proved that you would rather call her that..."
"it's not like that..." Steven sighs, wanting to comfortingly put a hand on her shoulder.
But he also wants to ensure he doesn't accidentally get another taste of her rage.
Pink stares at her bloody knuckle, tearing up at her son's blood staining it. "I went through a thousand year war... I lost a lot of friends from it, I couldn't save them all... I finally met someone who loves me... and then when I thought I had finally fulfilled myself... I lose my own son to the same Diamond who caused me to flee from this world in the first place..."
Her voice cracks, and finally letting her tears slip free.
"What did I do wrong...?" She asked tearfully, genuinely asking anyone who was listening. "Was this my punishment...?"
"Mom, you didn't lose me." Steven calmly replied, showing impeccable patience with her - more than anyone else. "It's not what you're thinking."
"How do you know that?!" Pink Diamond screams while gripping her hair in fury, glowing pink and melting the snow around them. "How do I know that?! I don't know anything anymore!!!"
"It may be unethical for me to practice therapy like this, since I'm not officially a licensed one. But I felt your emotions in the past. I experienced them, along with your memories - piece by piece." Steven explains, taking a bold step toward her and putting a hand on her hot back - feeling near-intense heat emitting from it. "I know what you're going through."
"How would you know?!" Pink snapped back at him impulsively, not actually meaning ill-will toward her offspring. "I tried so hard to mature for the better, yet I can't even do that right. I hurt just as many gems during my improvement like I did in the past..."
