Nothing felt tangible to him. It was nearly impossible to comprehend the situation. The woman he cherished lay unconscious in a hospital bed, and his mind struggled to fully accept the gravity of it all. Tears streamed down his face as he slowly extended his hand towards her abdomen, brushing it gently. He winced, squeezing his eyes shut against the ache that enveloped his heart.
A tightness gripped his throat at the thought of her enduring an ordeal he could not fathom. His mind raced with anxious possibilities—perhaps she was simply fatigued from the pregnancy, or maybe she had been in an accident. Every conceivable scenario flashed through his thoughts in a matter of seconds.
"My love? Jisoo... Jisoo... can you hear me? Please!" Haein whispered gently, his fingers brushing against her right cheek. Yet, there was no response. She remained still, and a wave of helplessness washed over him, making it hard to process the reality of the moment. Just then, the door creaked open, and in walked none other than Daniel. Haein's heart sank at the sight of him; a frown creased his brow. Daniel, equally taken aback by Haein's presence in his fiancée's hospital room, stood frozen for a moment. He slowly shut the door behind him, disbelief etched across his face as he locked eyes with Haein.
"Why are you here? How do you know her?" Daniel questioned, his tone laced with skepticism. Haein's brow furrowed as he tried to wrap his mind around the situation. He cleared his throat, attempting to regain his composure.
"I could ask you the same thing! Why are you here, and what's your connection to her?" Haein shot back, his voice firm. Daniel felt a surge of irritation rising within him, sensing the palpable tension in the air. With a scoff, he took a few steps closer, unwilling to back down from the confrontation.
"Well... Haein, isn't it?" Daniel said, recalling their brief encounter from about a week ago at his father's company. Haein felt the tension in his muscles tighten at the way Daniel spoke to him.
"That woman lying in that bed is my fiancée! So I'll ask you again—why are you here, and how do you know her?" His voice dripped with menace. Haein continued to stare at him, and suddenly, a memory surged back into his mind—one from four months ago, when they had met at the hotel bar. The weight of his words from that night came crashing down on him, stirring up a complex mix of emotions he hadn't anticipated.
"You!? You did this to her!" Haein exclaimed, his gaze locking onto Daniel's face with a newfound intensity. Daniel's expression hardened instantly.
"What the hell are you talking about?!" Daniel retorted, his brows furrowing in confusion and anger. Haein, fueled by a rush of rage, strode over to him and seized his shirt, gripping it tightly as he struggled to contain his emotions.
"You told me that night at the bar you were going to make her life miserable! WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?!" Haein shouted, the last words bursting from his lips with raw emotion. Daniel's anger flared at being confronted like this.
