As the clock approached five in the afternoon, Haein found himself still lingering at the hospital. He stood outside Jisoo's room, anxiously waiting for Daniel to finally step out. However, that hope diminished with the realization that Daniel was now aware of the truth—that Haein was the one Jisoo had spent the night with. His right foot tapped restlessly against the floor, a physical manifestation of his growing impatience.
All he wanted was to see her again, to feel her warmth, to have her sense his presence beside her once more. He let out a heavy sigh as time dragged on. Just then, he caught sight of Andrew approaching from the periphery of his vision.
"Hey," Haein said, a faint smile breaking across his face. Andrew returned the gesture, his expression warm as he opened his arms in greeting.
"I thought you might be camped out here forever," he said, presenting a cup of coffee and a bagel. Haein eagerly accepted the offerings, snatching the food and drink from Andrew's hands with gratitude.
"Thank you, you're genuinely a good friend. It's not your responsibility to keep bringing me clothes or food, yet you do it anyway, even when I insist you shouldn't," Haein said earnestly. Andrew let out a light chuckle, resting his hand on Haein's left shoulder.
"It's really no trouble! But I can tell something's bothering you. Your eyes have this different look today—there's a sadness and deep anguish in them that wasn't there before. I know you were concerned about that stranger earlier, but now it seems like whoever you're waiting for in that room means much more to you," Andrew remarked, his gaze steady and understanding. Haein let out a long sigh, slowly sliding down to lean against the wall, his gaze dropping to the floor.
"Andrew! Behind that door is the woman I love, lying in a hospital bed. She's in critical condition, and I could lose her at any moment!" Haein struggled to say, his voice thick with emotion. Andrew's brows furrowed in shock.
"Wow, that's a lot to take in. I'm at a loss for words," he replied, astonished. Haein managed a small smirk in response, sharing in the disbelief. He too couldn't comprehend how drastically his luck had turned. Discovering Jisoo's dire situation felt surreal and utterly terrifying.
"I'm just waiting for her doctor to show up. I need to ask him about her condition, but I haven't seen him at all—only nurses have been going in," Haein said, his desperation evident. Andrew began to gently pat Haein's shoulder.
"Just have a little patience. I'm sure the doctor will be here soon. Just hang in there," he reassured, trying to instill a sense of calm. But within moments, everything shifted dramatically. Haein heard a piercing cry coming from inside the room. His breath caught in his throat as he instinctively moved toward Jisoo's room, his steps heavy and deliberate. A whirlwind of anxious thoughts raced through his mind, each one more alarming than the last, as he wondered what could possibly be happening behind that door.
One thing Haein was certain of: Daniel's cry was not an ordinary one. It was a cry filled with despair and anguish, likely a response to the terrifying reality that Jisoo might be slipping away from them. In an instant, two nurses and a doctor rushed in without hesitation, their expressions serious and urgent.
Haein followed them into the room, his heart pounding. As he stepped inside, the sight that met him was devastating—Daniel was on the floor, tears streaming down his face, completely overcome with grief. The scene before him sent a chill down Haein's spine, amplifying the fear that had been gnawing at him.
"No!"
"No....no....no....please....this can't be happening to me!"
"Lord please nooo!!" A wave of dread washed over Haein as he witnessed the doctor working tirelessly to resuscitate Jisoo in the bed. The sight made him feel utterly powerless; tears began to spill from the depths of his soul, streaming down his cheeks. Andrew noticed the chaos unfolding and quickly turned his attention to Haein, who seemed frozen in shock, as if turned to stone. The only movement came from his wide eyes, reflecting the horror of the moment.
