Despite the chaos in her life, Jisoo persevered by showing up to work every day without fail. Her days were filled with a sense of melancholy, devoid of any happiness. The memory of her strong, kind-hearted father lingered in her mind, even though he had passed away when she was just 13 years old. His untimely death marked the beginning of a living nightmare for Jisoo.
As Jisoo's fingers flew across the keyboard, she suddenly noticed Hanri cautiously pushing the door open, inch by inch.
"Jisooya... can you do me a favor, please?" Hanri asked. Jisoo's face lit up with a bright smile as she nodded in response.
"Yes, Eonni... shoot!" Jisoo exclaimed. Hanri returned the smile and swiftly placed a map on Jisoo's desk.
"Can you please revise this document before delivering it to Sajangnim?" Hanri requested.
"Oh... afterwards deliver it to Sajangnim?" Jisoo asked, a hint of unease in her voice. Hanri furrowed her brow and nodded in confirmation.
"Yes, you have to give it to him... Is there a problem?" Hanri asked. Jisoo quickly shook her head.
"No, no... it's fine. I will do whatever you say!" Jisoo replied with a smile. Hanri nodded in response.
"Thank you... I'm finishing work early today because I have to attend my son's graduation. Thank you, for your help!" Hanri expressed gratefully.
"It's nothing... thank you for always helping me out when I need it!" Jisoo replied. Hanri smiled warmly at Jisoo and then left her office.
"After 3 days without talking or seeing each other, I'll just have to walk into his office like nothing happened. Great," Jisoo muttered in annoyance. She grabbed the map and began revising the document. An hour later, she had finished. Standing up from her chair, she took the map with the documents inside and made her way towards his office. As she walked closer, she felt her legs trembling with nerves. Before she knew it, she was standing in front of his office door.
"I can do this!" Jisoo thought to herself as she slowly knocked on the door. To her surprise, there was no response from inside.
"Sajangnim?" Jisoo called out, nibbling nervously on her bottom lip. She hesitantly began to open the door, peeking inside to see if he was in his office. However, she was taken aback when she saw a certain individual sitting in front of his desk all alone. Jisoo frowned at the sight of him being unaccompanied by any adult.
"Hello? May I know who this handsome little boy is? Where are your parents?" Jisoo inquired with a soft smile, her gaze fixed on his doe-like eyes that were unwaveringly focused on her.
"Eomma and Appa went outside!" He replied, scratching his head. Jisoo smiled warmly and slowly approached his seat. She crouched down to his level to speak with him.
"Oh, so you're all alone now? Are you hungry or thirsty? I can bring you something," Jisoo offered, noticing the sadness in his eyes. A sudden wave of empathy washed over her as she approached him, almost as if he had been on the verge of tears.
"No, Eomma says not to drink or eat anything from strangers!" the little boy replied. Jisoo's smile widened at his response. She gently reached out her hand towards his chubby cheeks.
"Oh, what a smart boy you are! Your Eomma is right! But I'm not a stranger... you see, I work here. It's my job to help anyone who needs it," Jisoo explained, gently stroking his left cheek. The boy's eyes immediately twinkled in response.
"Are you a... a... doctor??" He asked excitedly. Jisoo burst into laughter at his sudden realization.
"Oh, no, I'm not a doctor... I'm just a secretary. But part of our job is to help others around the workplace. How about this - I'll go look for your parents outside and ask if I can bring you something to eat, okay? How does that sound?" Jisoo asked with a wide smile. The boy smiled back briefly before looking down.
